I think they switched it sometime around 2006, maybe a bit earlier. I've found it to be very frustrating as well, as I almost always ruin the back date stamp with installation. Luckily I have never had to take Trijicon up on their warranty as the lamps often still glow past the 12 year mark. I suppose it could have been done intentionally in order to deny warranty claims? Wouldn't surprise me, the way businesses are run today...
