I've owned several 500s over the years, but only recently bought a 460V which S&W calls a 5", but it's actually a 4" if you don't count the Compensator as barrel. Anyway I mainly shoot handloads in my 460, and the vast selection of bullets of various shapes, and weights, makes the 460 in my opinion a more versatile revolver. If you handload, there is no reason to fire other cartridges than 460 cased ammo, but it's nice to know that the 460 will chamber and fire 45 Schofield, 45 Colt, and 454 Casull in addition. I use Starline cases and have had great success with that brass.
