Welcome again to the forum! You have made a great entrance with a wonderful 1st post. Maybe I can help you out with my thinking as to the shooting or not shooting of guns. My philosphy is that you absolutely have to experience each of the guns you buy. A function check at the range is a must at least once on rare or very high condition gun. Then if you can buy a duplicate or similar gun in a condition that is not so high for regular sessions or carry. Heck it would not hurt to take pristine examples out once a year to carefully shoot and enjoy then if you can buy more examples that are in shooter grade condition. After a few years you should have enough shooters that the very rare or high condition guns can stay at home for cleanings and fondling only.I myself am to the point where I have either shooter grade duplicates or I just take my S&W's from the 70's and early 80's to shoot mostly. Just my way of thinking on subject, do as you will and enjoy.
