One of my neighbors was a WWII vet who came home to a 40 something year career with nearby Camp Shelby and the National Guard. He passed away when I first moved here. I bought my land to build on from his widow. She called me over to her house one day saying she had some stuff she wanted to give me. They had an old dairy barn behind their house converted to storage. She let me and my son go through there and pick up stuff we wanted. There was several thousand rounds of 30-06, .45 ACP, and 30 carbine ammo still sealed in cans. I'm still shooting some of this stuff and haven't had a single misfire. Also in the barn were some helmets, WWII web gear, a few bayonets, and a 1918 LF&C trench knife still in the metal sheath. She liked to gamble but at 82 years old at the time she didn't like to drive to Gulfport. I took her to the casino for the day to show thanks for the loot. She won over $2,000.00. She passed away at 92 a few years ago about a week after her last casino trip.
