I believe this Gustave Young engraved New Model #3 is the S&W revolver that sold for the highest price recorded. The photo was reproduced from the S&WCA Journal, volumes 25-26, 1991 and 1992, page 79. This information is second or third hand at best, but S&W was reported to have sold this revolver for $600,000; with subsequent sales as high as $2,000,000. This revolver and many other high quality S&W firearms were part of the "Artistry In Arms" exhibit that toured the United States in the early 1990s. Click on the photo for a better look.
