It's stainless under that melonite. It shouldn't rust. Maybe they have cheaped out on both the stainless and the meloniting process for the Plus. Regardless, you really should give a carry gun a wipe down with a little CLP if it gets sweaty.
Also, and it doesn't matter now; don't use steel wool on any firearm finish. That's what bronze wool is for.
