I don't have a 586 with a frame mounted firing pin to compare it to, so I can't say, other than to think to myself that such a "divot" in the pin might increase the odds of the pin sticking to a primer in high pressure loads, disrupting normal cylinder rotation?

Update - Just looked at the pin face on my L frame model 69 - It is polished, smooth, with a slight cone shape. No "divot" or flattening that your seems to show.
