In Jeff Cooper's red book he talks about meeting a former SS Officer who fought on the Eastern Front. He said in one battle he took 3 rounds to the shoulder from a burp gun and did not even know he'd been hit until later when he was cleaning up. Unless a small caliber pistol round hits a bone it highly likely to just punch through causing little damage.

Ah yes, personal antidotes from the great Jeff Cooper.
Everybody knows that if it ain’t .45 then it won’t hurt you
And everybody knows that a small caliber bullet that just punches completely through your upper body without hitting major bones is nothing to worry about ☠️ Any volunteers?
