Today's collectors may call them that, but Heiser did not. This is 1923 from catalog No. 20:

It is from Heiser catalogs that we get the closest nomenclature we can for many 'old west' holsters such as the Mexican Loop; because that's what Heiser called it. But Heiser was not a gunleather maker until the early 20th century so who knows what the cowboys really called them then.
