Here in PA, you stop by the County Sheriff's Office, have a cup of coffee and chew the fat with the Sheriff while the nice deputy runs your background, and prints up a new copy of your permit. I think it's $25.00, and good for 5 years.

I keep my state pistol permit up, even though I carry under LEOSA, which is actually more stringent than a civilian getting a permit in that you have to renew and qualify yearly on the same course of fire local LEO uses.
