I just picked up a really nice P&R'd 629. It came in a rough presentation case, and I was just curious if 629s came in those boxes. Trying to figure out if it's worth getting fixed up.
The insert is in it, but draped with a red felt. One hinge is broken. To make up for the broken hinge, someone tacked a piece of leather over each hinge.
Sorry, I don't have a pic of the box on my phone.

Thanks,
I was just checking out the used gun case after an hour in the shooting range, and for 800 bucks out the door for a P&R N frame, I wasn't leaving it there. I really didn't care weather the case was correct. The worst part is I've never even wanted one of these.

Model 629s were shipped with a mahogany presentation case from 1980-1985. In 1982, the presentation case became an extra cost option. The case shown below has the original liner with the gun pointing to the right and the accessories contained in the compartment shown.

Thanks, so I'm also missing the little accessory cover. Think I may just write the whole thing off as mahogany kindling.

I bought a blue 29 6inch in 1973. It came in a wooden presentation case with blue felt for the insert. Years later I ordered from S&W a new insert, also blue. Enjoy!

I don't think I would do that. Show some pictures of it and let us take a look. We have a member that refurbishes these boxes and can make them look like new.

Would you kindly provide the information for the member that refinishes the cases? I have a few in need of refurbishment. Thanks in advance for any assistance that any member can provide!

+1 for Joe (jcelect). Send him a PM with some pics and he can give you an idea of what it's going to take to restore your presentation case. Joe does excellent work for a fair price...he's refurbished a couple of cases for me. And remember, these cases are currently selling for around $200 and S&W doesn't make them anymore. Just my 2 cents. Good luck, and enjoy that very nice 629!

In case anyone is still curious, a few pics of the fore mentioned presentation case. I sent the mahogany box guru a PM this morning, I'll see what I'm getting into. Structurally the case isn't in bad shape, except the broken hinge. The interior just needs to be made correct. I did just notice, while taking the snap shots, that the insert was in the lid of the box.

Just a little update and a public thank you to Mr. Joseph Cebull (jselect) for his wonderful work on my 629 presentation case. Money well spent. Sorry I forgot to take a picture of the actual refinish of the case and the new hinges, it's probably nicer than when it left S&W, but it's bubble wrapped and put away on a shelf.
