Default Bersa-one you never see

At least I hadn't until the other day. I always viewed them as inexpensive pistols from Argentina with alloy frames, something that I just wasn't interested in. The only reason I looked at this one was because of the long barrel. When I picked it up I could tell there wasn't any alloy in this one, it was all steel and I verified it with a magnet. Looking around on the internet, I quickly found that information on these is sparse and that most of these did not come to this country. The info that I did find revealed that there were four models of these; the 223DA, 224DA, 225DA & 226DA with the last digit denoting barrel length. Bersa also built these as single action models with the same model numbers but ending with SA. There were some differences though, the SA mag release is in the grip and there is a crossbolt safety that blocks the trigger(as far as I can tell). The mags are also different as well. The 224,225,226 in both SA & DA models also have threaded barrels, not for a suppressor but for removing the front sight. This allows the slide to be slid off of the barrel. The front sight is indexed so that it can only be seated in one position on the barrel. The nut is then threaded on to hold the sight in place. I think Walther does their PP series target pistols the same way.

Bersa 226DA 22lr target(?) pistol. The last pic I lifted from the internet, it is the model 226SA.
