Muley Gil,

You said "That bullet sounds like a near copy of the discontinued Lyman #313631"

Did you mean to say 311316" I have all three Lyman cast bullet books and there is no 3136anything in any of them. The 311316 is basically a 3118 with a gas check shank except the ogive is more blunt. The 311316 was at one time catalogued as 313316 as I recall. but that was many years ago!

I have been casting and shooting cast bullets for over 60 years, and even though I have used many gas checks, mostly on the Lyman 358156, I have concluded that gas checks are unnecessary on any revolver calibers. This applies regardless of how hard the bullets are driven. That was Elmer Keith's opinion about gas checks too! I still have a bunch of gas checks, but haven't put one on any revolver bullet for nearly 30 years.

At one time I did load the gas checked 311316 for my K-32. That bullet was extremely inaccurate and shot around 6" @ 25 yards! Same gun shot the 3118 into less than 4" @ 100 yards!
