Built on a Colt Combat Government Model (70 series), it came with all kinds of trick stuff. 5 3/4" heavy barrel with ported muzzle device, Wichita rear sight, receiver milled for wide trigger, extended weighted spring plug, modified feed ramp and likely thing I can't see. Consistent 3 lb. trigger pull. It's been sitting around for a while but I just got it cleaned and lubed and ready to shoot.

I used to shoot bowling pins years ago but I never had a gun that was built specifically for the sport.
Oh yea, those grips are Roger's.

I remember having saw a few of those up at Second Chance Bowling Pin shoots in Michigan in the early to mid 80's, that's what started compensators back then, now the rest is history, Jim Clark was certainly one of the (few) first innovators for comp guns.

Great to see History and it looks Great also.
 
One of the few gun shows I watch is the one about them . Sure looks like it means business , is it a 45 or 38Super ? Did you just pick it up or have you had it ? Sure wouldn't mind owning that piece , I bet it's a joy to shoot .

It's a 45. The extractor was pretty well worn so I put a brand new one in. I plan on taking it to the range tomorrow and I'll let you know how it shoots.

If one of the old Jim Clark guns is something you would really want, keep your eyes open. I have acquired a number of Clark guns over the last 8 years. I rather imagine that guns made while he was alive are coming up as their owners get out of the game.

I always like to tell the story about how my brother and I were celebrating a great second medical opinion I received at the Cleveland Clinic by riding back to his house on the US highways instead of the freeway. We came across a little gun shop on US 322 and there it was, a Jim Clark Heavy Long Slide .45 Government model. My brother said that they needed a mop in the store the way I was drooling. I never thought I would ever see up close a gun made by Jim Clark, much less have a chance to buy one. Well, I bought it and it is residing in my safe now. I think now that I'm getting back into shape from my medical issues I'm going to take it out again and play with it.

I was lucky enough to hear a story from Lee Crum (Lone Pine, Ca) when he was still in the Army and competing in some event and was approached by Jim Clark Sr. who was insisting that Lee needed one of his worked over 45s. Lee replied that he could not afford one on a privates pay and Jim said he could pay him as he could afford. If I recall correctly, Lee placed second in that event, Jim told him he would have been first if he had the massaged 45 Jim was building at the time.
 
Got it to the range today. The wide trigger has NO creep or over travel for pretty quick shots. A previous owner had the sight over to the left for some reason. Got that straightened out. I have a hard time shooting with my tremors so I got a young guy there to put some round down range. He did a lot better than I did. The number 28 is etched into several parts of the gun and the date: 11-86. Fun gun. :D
 
I always enjoy seeing posts and photos of guns done by previous generations of gunsmiths. About 25 years ago, I came across a gun Mr. Clark accurized in '66. I sent it back to Clark Custom for the tune up they offer and some other work. Still have the old gun..
