As a park ranger advised hikers in grizzly country to carry bear pepper spray, make noise on the trails, and even sew small bells to your clothes, and learn to differentiate between black bear and grizzly scat . . .
"black bear scat will have berry pits, nut shells, and bits of fur of small animals; grizzly scat will have small bells in it and smell like pepper."
