XS Sights Bodyguard 2.0

So I got my orange sights on the Bodyguard 2 today, and happy to report that as difficult as the OEM sights were to remove, the XS sights were a joy to install. Couple of light taps with the tack hammer and they were in place, with a set screw on the rear. Once I affirm they are true I will locktite them in place.

Are the bases of both the front and rear sights narrow enough to allow windage adjustments without overhanging the frame? Looking forward to seeing photos when you are ready. Your satisfaction will make a purchase by me likely. Thanks

Hm. Not sure about that. I haven't installed them yet but it seems wide. Attached is a picture of the R3D 2.0 sights

Here's the best pictures I could take. You'll notice the front sight is pushed to the left a bit, because the gun has been shooting to the left of POA. I'll bring a drift & hammer with me to the range and adjust as needed.

So does anyone have a range review of these sights? The stock sights are weird because of the rear, but they aren’t awful. Is it objectively worth the $100 to upgrade? Are you seeing better, more consistent hits at range?

Those are excellent questions.

Out of the box my BG2 shot low-left at 4 yards on first range day. The hole closest to the bullseye is a POA at 2 O'clock. I had the “know-it-all” armorer look at it. He said “I guarantee it’s all you, and the sights don’t look that for off”.

This Saturday is a range day and I will bench test it.

Regarding the rear sight slot... this handgun is marketed as a pocket carry for self-defense at a close encounter of the worst kind. I prefer a green painted front sight. The glow-in-the-dark green tritium for targeting in the dark is a non-issue for me. If I have to shoot in the dark, I’m not going to be looking at the front sight.

I assume S&W’s thinking is that the larger-than-desired slot in the rear sight aids in locating the front sight quicker during SD situation.

The problem with the rear sight is I can’t find it quick enough. Before I install the new XS Sights, with bright white fingernail polish, I painted it. It’s better, but I prefer the white dots on the XS Sights.

For fun at the range, the XS Sights should make you look like an expert hole-punching dude at 7 yards. In reality, if I have to shoot during an SD situation, I probably won’t even see the sights. According to all the experts, it will most likely be a point and shoot pew pew.

Completely agree with @GnarlsR2, I was low & left, but even more left than Gnarls. I've started off by installing the front pushed to the left, and will adjust according to POI. If I need a lot of left, I will try to split the difference between front & rear, so it won't be as noticeable. I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking maybe the rears would be less adjustment (Being nearer to my eyes)? I've got a busy week but hoping to get to the range in the next 4 or 5 days. Definitely worth the hundred bucks to me, if nothing else because the OEM sights were impossible to adjust at all, and the XS sights are easily adjustable.

If someone is up to it, can you post a side by side picture of the XS Sight and the BG2.0 factory sight?

I am interested to know the actual size of the dot size on both examples.
Not the tritium part, but the entire colored dot part.
How does the factory orange dot compare in size to the colored XS dot.
A measured size will work, but a picture is worth a whole lot of words.
Thank you.

It's too late to take a photo of them side by side, but I can tell you the orange dot on the Truglo I installed a bigger and brighter than the factory one. Here's a picture of the Truglo front and rear I installed. The rear one was made for the original Bodyguard, but also fits the Bodyguard 2.0, with just a little fitting. The front one was from a different set and though snug, could be pushed out by hand, so I used Permatex orange threadlocker to hold it in place and it's working out very well.

I know that in a couple weeks XS will be releasing a Big Dot sight in green for the Bodyguard 2.0, and I think I'll be upgrading.

That would be good. Thanks forgetting us know.

I was hopeful about the factory sight. The orange is not real easy for my eyes to pick up. Also, it sure seems small. That Truglow is a better size.

It does appear that there isn't much room to zero those new sights, without things hanging off the slide.
With my current combination of a BG1.0 rear/BG2.0 front, I'm pretty happy. I'll check their website for more particular info.
BTW, the OEMs are perfect buggers to move and remove. I've a Real Avid pusher that works well, but those sights made an ugly sound when they actually moved.

When I moved my rear......after breaking down and getting a pusher....it made a loud snap when it released. I thought I may have cracked my slide. It was just that rear sight.

I've sold my sights so I can order the Big Dot version when they're released.

It looks a much better sight picture with the new sights. But they also look much larger than OEM, which can cause issues drawing from a pocket. It also appears that the sights are pretty wide for that narrow slide.
Love to know why the BG2.0 shoots relentlessly left. My OEM sights weren't centered, but everyone is compensating for the windage.

I replaced the rear sights with ones from a Ruger LCP Max. It did significantly reduce my group sizes by I’m guessing half. It made me feel like I am getting much more out of the gun.
That being said, I have XS sights on the way. I have a pair of these pistols so I will have a side by side comparison of the two set ups, and know which combination suits me most favorably.
Both of mine shot well to the left out of the box and I feel the stock rear sight it much to wide.

I own a couple of these and I talked my buddy into one as well. All 3 most definitely are biased to shoot left. Benched, offhand, it doesn't matter, they shoot left. The sights are so tiny that to my eye it is tough to see that the front and rear are drifted correctly from the factory. One of them it was pretty easy to see the rear sight wasn't centered but the other 2 looked pretty close.

That is the bad news. Here is the good news. I use a MGW Sight Pro or something like that. It is their nice one that uses "shoes" for each brand. I broke down and bought the $14 shoe for the original BG 1.0 and it worked perfectly for the 2.0. All my guns now shoot dead center. Since the dovetails are so small I drifted the rear one way a bit and the front the other way a bit. The first correction attempt I just moved the rear only and it (groups) were centered but the rear sight looked noticeably not centered so I did the aforementioned front and rear and to my naked eye the sights look normally centered. Alas, it's a small gun so you have to be flexible solution wise.

As for the low impacts I would figure out what hold you are using as a first step. On my Sig 365 they quite clearly are the "combat hold" nonsense. Line up the sights, cover the target, and the bullets hit behind the tritium dot. I expected the same from these sights. On both of mine with the standard equal height equal light the bullets are impacting exactly to the tip of the front blade, ie POA = POI. Those are my two using Magtech and S&B.

I confirmed today at the range by bench testing my BG2 sight alignment out of the box.

It definitely shoots left about 4” and low about 2” at 4 yards and 7 yards.

I also confirmed that it will shoot Winchester 95 gr FMJ Flat Nose with zero issues. There are no issues with PMC Bronze 90gr FMJ, Sig Sauer 90 gr JHP, Hornady Critical Defense 90 gr FTX, Hornady Custom 90 gr XTP, Federal Personal Defense 99 gr HST, Winchester PDX1 Defender 95 gr Bonded JHP.

If I buy the XS Sights I prefer to buy a sight pusher and install them myself. Before I buy them, I want to try adjusting the factory front sight to see if I can get the POI corrected.

I'm wondering if the low hits are a result of that 'goalpost' rear; it's easy to bring the front sight to the bottom of that wide 'U'.
The windage problem can be solved with lateral adjustment.
The necessary adjustment of the sights does mean that those wide XS bases could be a problem.
