Has anyone here bought the Faux Ivory plowhandle grips from
LS Grips?
I bought a NM SBH two days ago that came with Pachmyer Presentation grips… good for range day, but ugly.

Please share your experience. I am considering placing an order. However, at $75 plus tax and shipping, I would like to hear from satisfied customers, first.

Bill,
First off I do not own any faux or synthetic Ivory grips. However, when I was a member of S.A.S.S. (for 20+ years) Cowboy Action Shooting competition I saw many of the Guy's and Gal's using SAA revolvers wearing faux grips - unsure of the specific brands. IMHO they can usually simulate the color fairly well but they are just not able to get the grain structure, shading and individuality right. I guess that is what makes real Ivory so beautiful and expensive.

An alternative to fake Ivory is Stag or Elk Horn Grips. While genuine Sambar Stag (from India) is absolutely beautiful on SAA's it's now been banned for importation also. They do have a bunch of company's making and selling Elk. While Elk is not as nice as Sambar, it is fairly nice in its own right and at least it is a real natural product and will darken, age and wear over use - gets better looking. Just a suggestion of course.

Not sure about LS but I like the faux ivory grips I have from Altamont. Ajax have not fit as well. Arizona Custom grips have been pretty good on my Bearcats.

Who are all these companies making Elk Grips? I’ve been searching. Grasshorn is not producing anything right now and Ken is retired. I can’t find anything else except a guy selling poorly fitted ones on eBay

I can only provide information on the LS grips that I did buy (not for a SBH).

I was wanting something similar to ivory for my UBERTI Schofield, and went with LS maple grips. I'm very happy with the fit and finish on these grips.

Hope that helps some, even if it's not exactly what you asked about.

I really like those maple grips. I personally think they look better than the faux ivory and they are cheaper. I have purchased a couple sets of un-finished wood from Lance so I could fit them to my gun. Very happy with them.

The late, great Ted Adamovich (Blu Magnum Grips) once told me when I asked him about imitation ivory “plastic grips look….plastic” :)

I hate to hear that about Patrick at Grashorn Grips……he has been doing it for quite awhile. Hopefully, it’s just temporary, because he makes great grips and is easy to deal with. I believe Ken is still making grips, but on his own timeframe and as he feels like it. That’s as it should be. He also makes a fantastic product. I think making grips can be rough on one’s hands when you have been doing it for a long period of time.

If you're willing to consider another supplier, check out Boone Trading. I bought some of his American Ivory grips for a 1911. I was very pleased and amazed at how much they look like real ivory.

1911 Simulated Ivory Pistol Grips

He also offers Simulated Ivory which is cheaper, but less realistic. I'm not sure if his Ruger grips are available in American Ivory. I suggest you call and talk with the owner abut your options. He was very helpful and made my grips on request even though they showed out of stock on his website.
