Bought a CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39 caliber about a year ago, and have been experimenting with some handloads, and casting bullets for it. It shoots Federal American Eagle brass case FMJ into about 1.5 inches at 100 yards, I have come close to duplicating that with cast lead.

Cast up some 155 grain spire point bullets from a Lee mold, about 80% wheel weights and 20% linotype, lubed and sized them/installed a gas check with a Lyman sizer. Loaded them with 19.5 grains 4198 to get an advertised 1900 feet per second. They shoot almost as well as the Federal factory ammo, 1.75 inches at 100 yards from a bipod rest:

Scope is a Redfield 2X8 compact variable.

This is the best results I have come up with to date with any .30 caliber cast lead bullets. They should also give more stopping power than factory ammo, factory 7.62X39 has 122 grain bullets at about 2000 FPS, these are heavier at 155 grains at 1900 FPS, and cost very little to assemble. Also, no leading, bore is squeaky clean after shooting 30 rounds of these cast lead bullets.

There is a lot to love about this CZ carbine! Light weight, smooth operation, Mauser type action, set trigger, detachable magazine, beautiful looks. I have two spare magazines and a Czech CZ52 spare magazine pouch (from the 1950's) to tote them around in.

Haven't tried this rifle/ammo combination on any game yet, but should be deadly on deer. I know 20 ounce water bottles are doomed when I see them at 100 yards....

If you don't have a CZ 527 rifle, get one! They come in .223 caliber as well.

I have been a huge fan of CZ rifles for about fifteen years. The American model, third from the top, is gone but was replaced by a HS Precision stock varmint model in .223.

I swapped for this .222 last fall, but gave it to my brother back in May for his birthday. He did not own a small bore, centerfire, light weight walking around rifle, now he does.

In 2002, CZ started cutting the chambers in the 7.62x39mm carbines with greater precision and uniformity. My carbine, purchased new in 2003, is date coded "00" for the year 2000. The code can be found on the RH side of the barrel and receiver, just above the stock.

I have that same CZ 527! My favorite deer rifle. I've probably posted this before, but I've taken more deer with that rifle than any I have ever owned. FWIW, I have found the PRVI SP RN 123 grn cartridge to be exceptionally accurate. Dropped my biggest deer ever (10 pt) with this load two years ago.

I'm also a fan of the CZ rimfire rifles and have trainers in 22LR and 22WMR.

Serious CZ love from down in Texas!

Agree. Thought of the .30 caliber, but got the .223 to shoot up some ammo. Mine is the carbine also, with 2-7x32 Nikon Prostaff. Still looking for really accurate ammo up to 55 gr [1 in 12" twist]; have tried several.

Congratulations on your fine choice.

I looked at the 527 in 223 and .31 Russian, and decided the 223 was cheaper to load for, so that's what I got. I have never regretted that decision, but I may wind up with both before it's all said and done. The set trigger has completely spoiled me, and the wood on mine is simply stunning. It's nimble in the hands (even with the big honking scope I have on it) and it points so naturally you almost have to try to miss. It will be the last bolt gun I ever sell!

I bought one of those this spring and put a Redfield 2-7x on it, it'll be going out with me this deer season. I love the way it fits and points feels like the Ruger 10/22 I grew up with. Great shooter, too, the single set trigger really makes a difference.

I had one and it had the grittiest bolt of any rifle I ever owned.

Must have been made by a Czech under the influence of too much Plzen.

Mine was chambered in .31 Ruskie as well. Shot okay other than the bolt. The single stack magazine was a detriment. These guns sold poorly thanks in no part small to that.

Very nice. I've been looking for one in 300 BKT for awhile now. Unfortunately for me prices have skyrocketed on the 527.

I was kicky around the idea of one when I came upon an Interarms Mark X or “ mini Mauser” as they are known in 223 . I’ve only ever shot PMC JSP through it. MOA no problem at 100 yds. It looked unfired when I bought it from Cabelas Library. It came with rings and like most of my rifles I put a Vortex on it. Not great pics. Took a couple when I got it home to clean.

I'm a big fan of my ".31 Russian." I have loaded everything from a 42 gr. round ball to a 60 gr. XTP to 150 gr. cast to 180 gr. RN jacketed bullets that still stabilize at ridiculously low velocities. I recovered a Barnes 123 gr. XTS that had penetrated a large whitetail doe lengthwise and stopped under the skin in the hip. That bullet expanded perfectly and would be a great candidate for a magazine ad. The only drama I ever had was last year when the stock bolt loosened and caused the magazine to not seat properly. I took the action out of the stock to investigate and had a rough time getting everything back together properly. There are only a few parts but everything has to be manipulated just right to fit and function. Of course the owner's manual does not explain this. Point of impact then changed slightly. When the weather gets better I will adjust the screw tension and attempt to get it back to where it was on paper.

For the times when the 308 is a bit much, like hunting from a tree stand, the 7.62X39 is just right. Or if you’re shooting steel out to 200, the 308 is harder on the targets and target holders than necessary.

I had. 7.62X39 in a Colt upper. I should have kept that.

The Howa Mini action is another great 7.62X39.

I saw where Remington made a commercial cartridge out of Bill Wilson’s 300 HAMM’R. That May cut into the 7.62X39 sales a bit.

CZs Rock!

I've got the American and FS/Mannlicher in .223. Both will do MOA off the bench and keep them under the crosshairs in the field!

They are great shooters with good wood. In addition to the 527FS I've got the Mannlicher's in .22lr and .22mag.

All wear small 1-3/4 x20 Leupold scopes, which are great in Penn's Woods and small fields.

Missed out on a 7.62x39 carbine a couple years back.... there one day gone the next!

I have one in 7.62x39 also and it’s a great little all purpose rifle. The bolts on these can be a bit wonky but that’s easily fixed, and I don’t have any problem with the single stack mag. I don’t need 10-30 rounds in a bolt rifle like that. I’ve busted a couple of coyotes with mine and shot lots of rocks and such with it. Mostly it just lives in my truck where it’s very handy.

I have one of these rifles with a Leupold 2.5x scope onboard, and I cannot sing its praises loud enough. It's a spectacular little gun.

I love mine. Also have a Varmint in .204 that has shot thousands of prairie dogs. Sadly my 7.62 suffered a cracked stock. CZ was no help since the 527 has been discontinued. It is currently with Macon Gunstocks having a new stock built.
