Default VA back door plan

This may be old news to some of you, but I just got a letter from
VA wanting to know how many guns I have to send me free gun
locks. This may cause a vet to loose his guns if he has been to
VA with DSS or other nerve or stress related problems.

This really doesn't even merit further discussion.

The most simple way to deal with this is just throw the letter away without replying.

Case closed.

Funny, the VA is years behind in processing claims, yet they've got time and resources for **** like this.

It does make you wonder... I would decline the offer. Or for your amusement, tell them you have 100,000 firearms, and then resell the locks at the next gunshow.

Just tell them you don't own any is the best answer I would give them. Beats NOYB or anything that could have you benefits held up. Let them look if they want to know.

My VA doc happened to notice my empty holster during a visit (guns not permitted in VA clinic, so I lock my carry piece in the floor safe in my truck when going to appointments). Asked what I carried, learned that I make holsters, hooked me up with her husband (avid shooter) and I got another customer.

Haven't gotten any correspondence from VA about guns, but I would probably ignore it if I did.

Every time I go in the screening nurse always asks a bunch of scripted questions (how are you feeling today? Any thoughts of hurting yourself or others?, etc, etc, etc). I always reply that I am about the happiest guy they are likely to see that day, all is good in my world, maybe I need to renew the prescription for --------------whatever----------, and it's all good.

I suspect that the VA (like most federal agencies) is being used to some degree for social engineering experimentation, and the OP is probably in a group selected to receive such a questionnaire for the purposes of establishing a database for some study or something. We can ignore them, but they probably won't go away.

Tell them "thousands" and wait for the 18-wheeler to show up.

A letter to your Senators and Congressman is in order to express your concern about your privacy. Thats what I would do in a heartbeat.
I certainly would decline to answer that question.
This is the biggest reason I try to stay away from the VA hospitals and clinics.
Right now I have my VA pension and I deal with them on the phone.

I don't think i would tell
them that. I read something about some guys arrested with a
"hoard" of guns in Alabama and other illegal items. I am
still wondering what is illegal about a "hoard" of guns and
exactly how many that is.

There was an individual out side the VA clinic my last visit offering free gun locks. I just replied that I had no use for one. Didn't lie to him.

The VA does not have any business knowing how may guns that you have.
When they ask me, I say none, and I have been asked.

So far they have not been obvious. I know a lot of vets with
PTSD and I don't have the problem. But the medical nurses always ask if you have been depressed or had thoughts of harming yourself. I always tell them none. I also don't use
any medication like pain medication, i do without, use aspirin
rather than use anything that could give them a valid case to
interfere with my gun rights. If they can take guns away from
veterans, then social security recipients, group by group they
will do it. Mental cases always seem able to get guns, and
this is just a red herring to get our guns. I flat out told my
primary care doctor about the government using things like
this on veterans in some states already as a method to
disarm veterans. Those who advocate gun control are like
people who want to give you a vasectomy so that other
people down the street don't keep having babies.

Default TexasArmed, You Are Dangerously Lucid...

So when the time comes for re-education, I think that you will be at the top of the list.
That will show you who is boss! The government will do the thinking for you or else!

My point is, that just asking the question, "Are you armed?", is a dangerous intrusion upon rights.
And it does not matter what the goal is, it is wrong to ask.
It is assumed in America, that any free man has the opportunity to arm.
And right there, is the thing that bothers them the most.
Any free man may be armed, at their own discretion.
(My philosophical rambling is ended for now.)

I highly doubt this is any type of backdoor plan.

We lose, on average, over TWENTY veterans a day to suicide.

This is very likely more a result of that than of any nefarious agenda.

Exactly this! The VA can't even finish what's on its plate. How in the hell can they take on new "projects?!"

We know there were plans afoot for restricting gun rights to
those who have a representative payee. Why would we not
assume that they have a back door plan to disarm veterans.
Remember comments have been made from time to time that
veterans are potential terrorists. In fact usually that terminology is not used unless they refer to a veteran. Real
terrorism is usually described as "workplace violence" or
"drive by shootings" or "he was depressed" rather than calling
it what it is, such as the attack in Chattanooga.
So yes, i think there may be a back door plan.

We know there were plans afoot for restricting gun rights to
those who have a representative payee and those who cannot
balance a checkbook. I am in neither category, but that
includes lots of SS recipients. Why would we not
assume that they have a back door plan to disarm veterans.

Of course if they admitted that attacks in Chattanooga
and Ft. Hood were terrorist attacks they might feel the need
to arm the military.
