Default Waiting Period

Our waiting period is 10 days. We have a UBC and a 10 rd mag limit.

I just live with it because I'm too old to move.

I worked in Colorado Springs and Alamosa in the 70's. I loved it. I would live there now except it's changed.

The state police are now doing the BGC.
Got the OK on my last revolver, in two hours.
That, is some progress.

Default And so it begins...

A custom rifle was delivered to Liberty Firearms Institute today. They efficiently processed the delivery and contacted me. Drove there on a Friday afternoon, it wasn't bad, inspected my purchase with pleasure, and passed my 4473 check. Now I wait until Monday at 16:00. Then Moms Demand Action and the Governor say I can have my purchase because those 72 hours ensure I will not harm myself or anyone else with it. I really wish global warming would change Wyoming's winters with greater rapidity. No big stress here, but definitely annoyed by the stupidity of the situation.

For what it’s worth, Wyoming’s winters aren’t nearly what they were 25 years ago. Sometimes they’re just plumb balmy. Liberty Firearms is quite a place. Used to visit it often back when I lived in Laramie.

Default You call that a wait, Colorado?

Washington State says hold my beer. The WA folks will get 10 (ten) mandatory business days wait for all gun purchases January 1st.

Not that there are many types of guns possible to buy here. Imagine somebody waiting 2 weeks to cool off for a Sig FCU purchase. You know, so he/she/that may change 'their' mind if was buying that FCU to kill self. In WA more than 75% of gun deaths are suicides, way above the national average.

Such is living in the beautiful Socialist State of Washington.

I know, I know, I feel for those Americans in more annoying and restrictive situations. I am only beginning to know how good I had had it.

Default 22 hours to go

So, anticipation is overwhelming annoyance with positive energy. Planning on bringing a new shooter to the range tomorrow and picking up my purchase after creating a new shooter. One of us, one of us, one of us....

My first Colorado wait gun was this very nice Savage 99 circa 1940. I paid for it at 1 pm on Tuesday. So - 1 pm Friday, right?

Nope. It was at Cabelas and they start the 72 hour clock at midnight on the day of purchase. So I had to get it on Saturday.

Default Well,

I did not take my old friend to the range yesterday, not quite enough time. However, we had had a great visit at our home and I showed him my modest collection. He had never touched or handled a handgun before. He is a very smart and capable person, so it was easy for him to appreciate the design and manufacturing genius embodied in firearms prroduced by S&W, Colt, Sig, CZ, Springfield (1792), Remington Rand, Underwood, Standard Products, etc. He asked the best questions and had a great time.

After he left, Honey, the dogs and I went to LFI to pick up my 72 hours "safe" purchase. The governor and Moms Demand Action were probably smart to make me wait. Cold and rainy tomorrow, so dark-retro and I will go to the range:

Default About 50 years ago

My family had two Colt SP1 variants in the late 70s through the 90's, Pop sold them to friend's of his at the height of the ban, I was at the height of my non shooting wilderness phase, so I don't blame him. It feels good to have a clone of a now classic, but the proof will be in the pudding of its future range performance. 72 hours sucks, but it is not the end.

Default The smell is getting stronger

I have made two purchases since the waiting period went into effect. It wasn't bad (not my first firearm), but our state's reputation continues to decline in the 2A community, even when we try to be legal. I love and do not blame Wyoming at all.

Nobody who is not a member of their state assn. and a variety of pro-gun associations has room to complain. We are stronger together.

I had to deal with a waiting period during my three year tenancy in Illinois. At least if you ordered something most FFL's would begin the process on the day you paid for it so by the time it got there you were good to go.

On top of that they have the FOID card. None of which does any good whatsoever.

And here I thought this thread was going to be about CSC and the ruling on President Trump. Colorado has gone full liberal-progressive. Bad for the state and bad for the Country.

The problem with that Dec 2023 article is that the "new" assault weapon and mag restrictions in the city or Boulder, plus the likes of Louisville, Lafayette, Superior, Broomfield, have all been suspended pending legal ruling based on the recent SCOTUS guidance. The quoted source seems to know a lot about some aspects of the topic, but is highly ignorant of other aspects. He is real talented in making fun of Boulder, however.

I know. I thought I had missed something more recent regarding Boulder. In the last two years I have made two purchases in Arizona, both 4473 legal, both sellers had issues with my Colorado residency. They were both trying to protect themselves, not make things hard for me, so I understood their position. It was my first encounter with the aroma of Colorado following me around.

Special shout out to Illinois semi-automatic firearms owners and their current level of compliance with the new registration requirements which go into effect in less than 48 hours. Well done everyone. (Four plus years ago Boulder enacted an AR registration ordinance, since withdrawn. They never gave an accurate number of how many Boulder residents complied/non-complied. Same result as Illinois I think)

At the time, believe the number of compliance registrations was XX out of probably XXXX platforms in the city.

I was shopping in a Sioux Falls SD gun shop over Christmas. I probably set myself up by wearing my Broncos hat, but the clerk asked for ID and had to check his sheet that he was even allowed to sell me pistol ammo. I have made many non-firearm purchases there before over the years, and in the future, I will make sure to wear local clothing (like a SDSU Jacks hat) and pay with cash. Nobody else was getting carded for ammo or mags.

Glad you got a fast response. There is plenty at the other extreme with people waiting 6 or 7 business days or more. Starting January 1st, minimum 10 days waits and no more release after 10 days if no response. And speaking of progress, for 2024 there are expected new laws adding training requirement with live fire, permits to purchase and only one gun purchase per each 30 days. Progress overall is only for the communists in charge and the people who vote for them. For the rest, don't be fooled by that one fast check, not going to happen again.

Here if called in and no problem it is granted during that conversation. If computer generated then it takes 5-10 minutes.

If you are a CCW holder in the state of Florida, a handgun goes home with you that day. If not there is a three working day wait.

As of last week:

FOID holders: 2,415,481

Protect Illinois Communities Act Statistics

Number of Individuals Completing a Disclosure: 15,164
Total Disclosures: 51,978
Firearms Disclosures: 33,065
Accessory Disclosures: 18,632
Ammunition Disclosures: 281

So still 99.4% noncompliance. 🤣🤣🤣

We used to say elections have consequences. That was until Washington state taught the rest of the nation how to cheat (Rossi v. Gregoire). No Republican, let alone Conservative, has won a statewide office since.

Just thought I’d chime in with a really quick rant. I live in Colorado and love it. Prior to CO I lived in WV, OH, TX, OK, & ND. While I loved parts of all those other states, my quality of life has been better in CO than anywhere else I’ve lived.

There are absolutely things I’d like to see different in CO, but one thing I’ve noticed is that many who are conservative just choose to flee - it’s no wonder the West coast ideals take over when everyone on right would rather just leave than put up a fight (in general).

Maybe that’s just within my family/friend group, but it’s made for an interesting conversation.

The result is less competition, higher prices, harder for poor people, and everyone for that matter, to get a gun. That's what the 3 day wait is all about too. It is just more red tape for legitimate gun owners.

You guys in "free" states get deals we can only dream about.

I am not leaving my home state. We need to invite more like minded people to join us here. It was/is a wonderful place to call home.

I have a feeling that it won't be either. NICS is a federal system, subject to federal law, not state laws. Every state is different and every FFL is going to have to comply to state law or lose their license.

If a proceed comes back from NICS in 20 minutes doesn't mean a darned thing as far as state law and waiting periods. I know, we've had a 10 day wait here for handguns for awhile. Now it's all firearms after the 1st of Jan.

My last dealing with Cabela's was they don't even check the application for 10 days. I finally had to go in and ask them to check mine after 10 days. They never called me and probably wouldn't have. Cleared after 5 days which is normal.

These laws drive many FFL's out of business. It will in your state also.

I love living in Colorado! Sure, the 3 day wait is ridiculous, especially for someone who already owns a gun. Yes, the politics could be a little more conservative. On the other hand, you can still find a copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird", in the local school library, AND we have 300 days of sunshine, every year.
Every state has plusses and minuses. I'll stay right here, as long as there is skiing, hunting, fishing, hiking, and sunshine.

Default Well, leave it to Boulder County - 10 days!

My family run LGS got me a 2024 Dan Wesson Guardian, .38 Super, Yay! Went in today, Friday, to fill out 4473, the shop is closed Sunday & Monday, I'll happily pick it up on Tuesday. No! I will happily pick it up a week from Tuesday. On April 1st a new 10 day waiting period went into effect for Boulder County. I am annoyed. That's all I am. I am not suffering. If I don't move to Utah, I will start flying the Gadsden Flag on holidays and I will try to make all my purchases at my LGS in the meantime.

As a firearms enthusiast I know the law, we have to. Yet this one caught me out. I am more annoyed at getting caught off guard then having to wait for a new range toy. The goal of all this "infringement" might just be to make it easier to arrest us?

Not that there are many types of guns possible to buy here. Imagine somebody waiting 2 weeks to cool off for a Sig FCU purchase. You know, so he/she/that may change 'their' mind if was buying that FCU to kill self. In WA more than 75% of gun deaths are suicides, way above the national average.

Such is living in the beautiful Socialist State of Washington.
So they supposedly are concerned about suicides in Washington, while they have physician assisted suicide, ban on capital punishment and legal abortion? Sounds like the waiting period isn't really about concern for the lives of individuals, but just another roadblock to private firearm ownership.

Come to Louisiana...we need the money
And if anyone tries to turn us into New York or California that person will get beat soundly about the head and shoulders until all screaming stops at which time said person will be fed to the pigs, thrown into the swamp for the gators or cut up and used for crab bait.

I believe tomorrow, Monday, a legal challenge will be filed hopefully that will provide an injunction until a decision is made but it's still disheartening. I know 3 days isn't that big a deal and that many have it worse but there has been a deterioration of our freedoms as this state has become more left leaning every year. I've also heard from a couple of shops they're still waiting to find out how this will impact them providing the ftf transactions-possibly another rider to their insurance, separate storage areas just a couple. Sad, it used to be a great place. If I sell off any of my stuff that my sons aren't interested in I'll just put them on consignment at a store-those fees have risen greatly also, usually 15-25% of the selling price.

If my sons weren't here I'd leave but as I age (67 in 29 days lol) being close to them and my grandchildren become more important every day.
Well, now you can get ready to purchase a muzzleloader, a single shot or a revolver now that semi-autos are being banned.

That picture made me laugh. We drove from Ohio to Florida in the early seventies and saw that show at Cypress Gardens. I thought they had a pool in the shape of Florida as well. That trip was about as close to the National Lampoon Vacation movie as you can get. We were headed to Disney of course I think it opened in 71 and we were dying to get there.

Sorry for the thread drift.

I would love to move to SD even though Ohio is staying red in a lot of areas, it will turn more purple once Intel hits our neck of the woods. My wife could never handle the winters there. I love it and I loved the Colorado of old. Went there for a conference and stayed downtown, full of hipsters, dopers and elitists. Same with Seattle and the list goes on and on.

Today I stopped by one of my favorite shops and the owner was discussing our current very sad situation with all the new legislative activity. Virtually any semi firearm will be banned, parts as well. Anything already owned would be grandfathered in, no new transfers (buying or selling allowed), no new parts allowed. The outlook for stores staying open are bleak as there are potential laws impacting licensing, credit card fees/tracking.

The so-called assault weapon ban bill is where many of the restrictions on the type of firearms/parts reside. It passed the house and is in the hands of the senate. Some local pundits seem to feel the worthless governor will not let it become law as it's too wide ranging. About the the only thing still available to purchase would be revolvers and lever guns.

Only a few more weeks in the session, not feeling great about things.

Denver and Boulder County are nuts and in charge of Colorado. We all know this. I am now a twenty five year veteran of living in Colorado. The powers (I won't launch into politics, I promise) behind legal weed destroyed/changed the state for the worse and they just won't stop. Not law, but rules, ordinances and taxes sketchily pushed trough, all aimed at permanently weakening their political opponents has gotten Colorado to where it is.

We have a nice home in Colorado, but leaving is on the table.

On a positive note! In one month it will be time for the Colorado Gun Collectors Show. Last week, on the same day that I found out about Boulder's "special" ten day wait, the Collectors Association sent me an email. Because the show is C&R, fifty years old at least, all sales will be normal! Not three day, not ten day, just a normal background check and walk.

The usual show budget just tripled .

Know several gun folks that have moved from Colorado to Florida because of politics and other things.....

Just to the south of you, in NM, we are now going to be saddled with a 7 day waiting period, beginning next month. Fortunately, after much wrangling, CCW holders were exempted.

We have a three day wait if you are buying a new/used handgun. If you are doing a trade-in/buy there is no wait. If you have a CCW, there is no wait.

While the cold winters are getting to me, too cold up here for yuppie pond scum to move in full time. Bad enough during tourpest season. And this past winter was very mild, relatively.

If my son and his little ones weren’t here I’d be gone. He just retired from the Colorado Army National Guard after 20 years, sticking to his second career as a firefighter/paramedic. Being able to spend with them as frequently as I do is the most important aspect to my life.
