Even the city folk are coming around to self-reliance.

People need to understand that the police are under no obligation to protect you as an individual. If they can't get there in time to prevent a crime in progress, they can't be held liable. Personal accountability lies in the hands of the citizens. Dial 911 from a cellular phone in my county, and you may very well be on hold for minutes. Good luck with that.

I knew that those folks in Toledo were pretty smart! All they needed was a little wake-up call.

Here is good evidence that Democracy and the free market rule. The City can't afford Police so the people arm themselves for self-defense. Any guesses on which will prove more cost effective?

Ya know, I agree with what everyone said so far. Its not the Police's fault. Bad admin, poor fiscal planning are some of the causes of these layoffs. I fear we will hear more of this from all parts of the country.
I remember a story in a copy of The Guns of the Old West. It was about vigilanti's and how they were sometimes a good thing and sometimes not.
San Francisco was cleaned up pretty well during and after the Gold Rush by citizens who had enough of the crime that was rampent.
Maybe its time that citizens begin taking back their "turf". Armed citizens with proper instruction in law,gun handling, use of deadly force, etc and then deputized would go a long way to send the message that crimminals wont be tolerated. Of course, the state owned media will be all over this-but screw 'em. Their part of the problem.
