I think carrying a 6" gun for an extended amount of time would become drudgery, I've done it and won't consider doing it again.
One option is to send it to S&W and have them install a 4" barrel (standard or Mountain Profile). Might cost ~$150-200 (not sure), but it would be what you want for carry purposes.
You could then sell the Powerport barrel to recover some of your expense for the conversion.
