Pinned barrels have a machined "flat" on a spot in the threads. Once the barrel is installed (screwed into) on the frame, a small pin is driven into one side of the frame and it comes out flush with the other side of the frame. It holds or "pins" the "flat" area and prevents the barrel from turning
