Dick...I did not receive your email. My uncle spent most of his time in Europe with the 12th Armored Divison. When the war in Europe ended he was transferred to the 2nd Armored Division until he was sent back to th U.S. in late 1945. He was single and did not have enough points to go home in the early waves of soldiers returning, so he had to spend time on the French Riviera, etc.
My father joined the Army in January 1941 and was due to be discharged in January 1942. He finally was discharged, in October 1945. So much for spending your year and getting out.
In addition to the uniform, I have the Colt M1911A1 and shoulder holster my Dad carried for several years as a First Sergeant in the 249th Coast Artillery and later the 28th Infantry Division.
