Default WTS: MAKE AN OFFER - Hundreds of gun books -- collector library liquidation sale

I have undertaken the process of disposing of my personal library of firearms-related books, including some rare vintage books, collectable vintage catalogs by S&W and Colt, etc. All books offered here are hardcover unless otherwise noted. They are in good or better condition (any exceptions are explicitly noted), mostly very good, many as-new. Any specific defects are noted in the descriptions. Where a book has a dust jacket, I mention it; most of the books that lack dust jackets were published without them. Where a book is autographed by the author I mention this.

I will accommodate requests for photos within reason, as time allows. I prefer emails to DMs, as they are easier to keep track of: my gmail address is my full name, Douglas Dean Johnson.

I will respectfully consider ALL offers. I am never offended by an offer--the worst that can happen is that I will decline or perhaps make a counter-offer. The longer a book goes unsold, the more amenable I become to offers on that book. I like batch-deal offers as it saves me time and energy on packing and shipping. I welcome offers that are accompanied by evidence from various book-selling sites, ebay, or wherever, that I may have set a specific price too high. (Pricing of rare items such as original S&W and Colt catalogs is especially difficult, as it is difficult to find comparison sales.)

You can check out my past feedback using the "search this forum" tool in the "Classified > Feedback" subforum (search by user name-- ddeanjohnson).

I will cover shipping costs on all orders of two books or more. However, if you order just a single book, add $3. All books will be well packed and sent via USPS Media Mail rate, which includes a free tracking number. Insurance will be added only if the buyer requests it (I do not recommend it), and pays the insurance fee; I will tell you that fee in advance. No international shipping. Depending on my schedule, as much as one week can pass between payment clearing and shipping, but in most cases I ship the books within two or three days.

I prefer payment by personal check; books will ship after the check clears. I will accept a USPS money order or Zelle. If you must use Pay Pal or Venmo I will accommodate, but add 5% to the total purchase price. If someone wants to make a sizeable purchase and is in a big hurry to get the books, wire transfer is the option, as the funds clear immediately.

Per forum rules, if you wish to purchase, please post below "I'll take item #XX, Acme Gun Makers." Then send me a PM or email (email is preferred) informing me how you wish to pay. I will mark that book "SPF" (Sold Pending Funds). If you encounter difficulty with that procedure, please send me an email specifying what you wish to purchase-- again, my gmail address is my full name, Douglas Dean Johnson. Thank you.

The books appear below in the following sections:

SMITH & WESSON

SW-1: Smith & Wesson Revolvers: The Pioneer Single Action Models. John E. Parsons. 1957. Book in very good condition (a few small spots on page edges). Dust jacket is good-- some small tears, tatters, and scuffs. $55.

SOLDSW-2: Smith & Wesson Revolvers: The Pioneer Single Action Models. John E. Parsons. 1957. This copy is in fair condition-- it is completely intact and the pages are clean, but it looks like something once spilled on the back cover of the dust jacket, which also stained the back cover board (the inside is undamaged). The dust jacket also has tatters, little tears, and nicks. $25.

SW-3: Magnum. The S&W .357 Magnum Phenomenon. Timothy J. Mullin. Collector Grade Publications, 2012. Like new, with dust jacket. $110.

SW-4: The K-Frame Revolver. Timothy J. Mullin. Collector Grade Publications, 2015. Volume II in the S&W Phenomenon series. 2013. Like new, with dust jacket. $250.

SW-5: Serious Smith & Wessons: The N- and X-Frame Revolvers. Timothy J. Mullin. Collector Grade Publications, 2015. Volume III in the S&W Phenomenon series. Like new, with dust jacket. $110.

SW-6: Artistry in Arms. Roy G. Jinks. This hardcover book is based on the Smith & Wesson International Museum Tour 1991-1995. Signed by Roy Jinks. Excellent condition; there is a strip about one-quarter inch wide of slightly faded in along the bottom edge of the dust jacket. I don't know if this is a small printers' error or sun-bleaching; it is hardly noticeable. $75.

SOLD SW-7: S&W Journal triple issue (Vol. 25, No. 4, and Vol. 26, no. 1 and no. 2 (1992). Content similar to the book "Artistry in Arms." Softcover. $25.

SW-8: Smith & Wesson 75th Anniversary (1927) catalog. ORIGINAL, NOT A REPRINT. 4.5x6-inch format, 48 pages plus covers, printed two-color throughout (black and red). Pretty much perfect condition except a previous owner wrote some numbers in pencil on the back cover. $75.

SOLDSW-9: Smith & Wesson 1936 catalog. ORIGINAL, NOT A REPRINT. 7.25x9.5-inch format. 40 pages plus covers. This is overall in good condition but does have some defects. There is some soiling on the covers. There are also some smudges along the the edges of some of the pages towards the back, possibly a little mildew cleaned off long ago, but the book smells completely dry, not musty. I can send detailed photos if anybody is interested. It is in total a very nice item with wonderful detailed illustrations of all of the revolver models. $100

SW-10: Smith & Wesson "85th Anniversary" (1938) catalog. 4.5x6-inch format, 50 pages plus covers. Pretty much perfect except that a previous owner wrote a phone number on the back cover. NOTE: I originally listed this as "not a reprint," but Don Mundell tells me that it is "a repro...all of the Anniversary catalogs had brown covers." I defer to his expertise. My initial description was based on there being no marking indicating a reprint, and the cover-paper texture is the same as the "75th Anniversary" catalog also listed here (but the color is not). "1938" appears on the title page. The interior is black-and-white, good paper and sharp images. $60

SOLD. SW-11: Smith & Wesson Centennial Catalog (1952). ORIGINAL, NOT A REPRINT. 6x9-inch format. 62 pages plus covers. Very good condition-- dealer's name stamped on cover, some tanning near spine, minor soiling of cover. $60.

**

SOLDSW-12: Smith & Wesson Centennial Catalog (1952). 6x9-inch format. ORIGINAL, NOT A REPRINT. 62 pages plus covers. Very good condition overall, but some flaws: dealer's name stamped on cover, foxing on title page (but book does not smell musty, inconspicuous inked notations on prices on several pages, and one sentence underlined in ink. $45. Note: Another copy of this catalog is still available-- see #SW-11 above.

SW-15: Smith & Wesson 1900 catalog -- high-quality reproduction by Jayco (1962). 9.5x6.75-inch format, heavy stock paper. $45.

SW-16: Smith & Wesson 1901 catalog -- reproduction by Cornell Publications. 8.5x5.5-inch format, black and white. The original catalog had 72 pages, but this reproduction is missing pp. 35-38, because the original used by Cornell was missing the same pages. $6.

SOLDSW-17: Smith & Wesson "Catalog D." Reproduction by Cornell Publications. 5.5x8.5 format, black and white. $7.

CARTRIDGES

SOLD PENDING PAYMENT. CA-1: Cartridges: A Pictorial Digest of Small Arms Ammunition. Text and illustrations by Herschel C. Logan. 1959. 204 pages. A classic. MISCELLANEOUS

MI-1: The Rifle. This is a two-volume set that contains full-size (13x10-inch) reproductions of all issues of A.C. Gould's publication THE RIFLE for 1885-1888. These two volumes were published in 1990 by Barefoot Publishing Company and Tom Rowe Books. These papers included advertisements with line drawings or wood cuts of the Smith & Wesson and other handguns of the day. The editors included an introduction about Gould, the publication, and the U.S. shooting sports culture of the era. (In 1888 THE RIFLE evolved into SHOOTING AND FISHING, which in 1907 became Arms and the Man, which evolved into THE AMERICAN RIFLEMAN in 1923. The editors also included an index. This set is as-new. $325.

MI-2: The Custom Revolver. Hamilton S. Bowen. First Edition, 2001. This is a scare out-of-print work, with beautiful color plates of many of Bowen's wonderful customized revolvers, plus detailed information on all of the technical aspects. 303 pages. Both book and dust jacket are pretty close to as-new-- the dust jacket has some minor rubbings, and a crease on the inside flap (not visible). $400.

MI-3: Modern Sporting Gunnery: A Manual of Practical Information for Shooters of Today. Henry Sharp. This is an original 1906 edition, very rare. Overall condition is good. Some letters worn off the spine. Some foxing and tanning, some strains on edges of pages, but all is solid and intact, and the text is clean and readable. I have only seen one other copy ever listed in this good a condition and it was priced at $250. My price: $100.

MI-8: Sharpshooting for Sport & War. W.W. Greener. This is the original 1900 book published by Truslove, Hanson & Comba, not any of the many reprints of this classic. I doubt you will find another original first edition. The spine is so broken-in that the book will lay open on the desk, but all of the pages are tight. There is darkening of paper due to age. In all, a very decent vintage original of a classic. $50.
