Default SW branded Max Velocity .22 SHORT ammo.

I recently bought a box of Smith and Wesson ammo. The box is marked Max-Velocity .22 SHORT. I can't find a reference to it in the 3rd edition. Any info? Thanks in advance!

I'll move this to the top. 82 folks looked, but no info or comments. Ended up buying 4 full boxes.

I don't know much about it other than it is collectable. I picked up a brick of it at the Memphis/Germantown, TN gunshow last weekend. I spotted it on Friday evening and the asked price was $75.00 for the full brick. Sunday, the dealer that had it walked up to me and asked if I was still interested in it and said he would take $25.00 for it. I broke up the brick and sold nine of the individual 50 round boxes for $10.00 each. I kept the brick sleeve and one box for my personal collection.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Check that, just reread your post. Mine is 22 LR, not 22 Short. I've never seen S & W 22 short.

Class III,
I've never seen it in .22short either nor can I find a reference in the 3rd edition. I ended up buying 5 boxes of 50 just as collectables.
Thanks for your post.

I have a whole brick of the max velocity shorts. The 50 round boxes inside look mint. Anyone know what they're worth?

Even though they are S&W brand they were probably made by Fiocchi. When S&W bought out Alcan and went into the ammo business they probably had an excess of odd things in inventory. And as they were testing the waters on ammo they sold everything for a while. As other ammo companies( Activ and others)found out The big 3 owned the market at the time. Too hard to compete. Is the company name just S&W or S&W-Fiocchi? They ran the business together for a couple of months. This was about the time S&W started selling shotguns like the M-1000 semi-auto and the M-1000 P(later 3000) pump. The pump was a good shotgun. The SA had a few problems. I sold a lot of S&W branded ammo(and shotguns) but have never seen 22 short. 100 bucks a brick seems a good starting point on price

I bought and shot a lot of thr S&W shotshells. Including the first wasp wasted Sabot slugs. Invented by BRI. They(S&W) made them for Police use...very hard and softer for deer hunting. I tried both and found the police slugs more accurate. but in and out. They shot great out of my 1100 skeet. Yes they were loaded in Alcan cases(provided by Fiocchi). I do have a few boxes of pistol rounds marked S&W-Fiocchi as well as one box of shotshells. Don't know who made their 22s in Mexico. Wasn't Aguila owned by Remington? I do know Alcan sold 22 ammo and their main ammo and component supplier was Fiocchi. Alcan 220 Max Fire shotgun primers are still made by Fiocchi as the #616.
