I have carried a 940-1 9mm for 20+ yrs. As this is a revolver with moon-clips, I have used various types and manufactures ammo. Most of the time, selection was based on price not quality.

I will shortly posses a CS9. Knowing autos are more selective when feeding and ejecting, I am looking for some feedback on what to use.

As the CS9 is a 3 inch barrel, I thought the new GDSB ammo might be a good starting point.

Anyone with some anecdotal experiences???

I still plan to use military grade FMJ for practice, I am looking at GDSB for street carry.

I sound like a salesman for the stuff. I have tried SB Gold Dot in several calibers (including 9mm Kahr), and find no fault.

I'm not a big one to buy into the latest/greatest fad, but I found that Speer's 9mm +P GDHP short barrel 124-grain load gives really great velocities and minimal deviations with very good accuracy out of 3" tubes - I use it in my 3" RAMI (c. 1175 fps, IIRC) and a woman friend of mine uses it in her 3" PPS (a bit slower than my RAMI, but same area).

CS9 is a neat gun, hombre - I think that you're thinking right with the load. Obviously try it to see how it does from your gun before you commit, but I'd expect that your instincts are right on this.

Feeds in my XD-9 Sub-compact which also had 3" barrel with no problems. Feeds and extracts prefectly.

I've run Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel in everything from .32 - .45 and have never had a problem with feeding, extraction, firing, or staying well on target.

One of the purported bennies of GDSB is that the powder is formulated to get optimum burn in a short barrel,,

Supposedly to prevent flame-thrower post barrel burn and protect night vision.

Experiences??

As an example (not me), here is an AMD-65, with 12.5 inch barrel. A normal AK has a 16 inch barrel..

Not exactly a 9MM,, but the Touristas are impressed..

I see it as a target acquisition opportunity...

True. I can duplicate the load with a couple of medium powders, but I'm can't tell you exactly what powder they use.

FWIW I had a CS9 for a while and it functioned with everything I tried in it. I also ran several different loads over the machine and found little difference in velocity from a 3913 I used for comparison.

Oddly enough, it is the only 39XX I've owned that I sold. I have hands like Virginia Hams and the ergonomics just didn't work for me. Last Fall, I watched the young lady that bought it shoot it in an IDPA "Come as You Are" pick up match. She left some of those guys standing there with their mouths open! These little guns will shoot.

A while back, I emailed Speer to inquire about the differences between standard and short barrel loads. They responded:

The 9mm +P SB 124 gr # 23611, has a velocity of 1150 fps as that is due to the reduced barrel length. The #23618 is a 9mm 124 gr with a velocity of 1150 but that is from a 4" test barrel versus the 3.5" barrel used to test the 23611.

Specifics from 3" tubes:

CZ RAMI (5950'>sea level, c. 54° F): M 1178 fps/ES 29.71/SD 11.09/382 fpe

The Walther PPS looks like it averaged 1158 fps, same range @ 78° F - don't have the spread data worked out.
