Default ammo at Wal Mart

Was in a local Wal Mart yesterday afternoon and decided to pass by the ammo cabinet. Lo and behold, shelves nearly full; plenty of 9mm, 45acp, 357 Sig, and 40 S&W value packs, some WWB 38+p HP, lots of 22lr. and suprisingly 4 value packs of .380 ($31.97/100) which I have never before seen in that store. Didn't have an urgent need to buy any so left it for others. At least maybe I now know which day of the week they receive shipments. Maybe things are improving a bit.

I picked up a 250 round pack of the Rem-UMC hardball for $90 including tax earlier this week at a MaconGa WM.. There were actually three of the 250 round packs in the case, but I am still making an effort to keep ammo purchases below $100 per month, so I only got one of them. Since I had already spent about $40 this month, my efforts appear to be in vain.

Things have improved a lot since the days when all I'd see at the local WMs ammo cabinets was a lonely box or two of Sig .357 or S&W 40.

Wallys around here have ammo out the ying yang now... everything but .380. But good to hear it's coming back in other areas, hopefully show up here soon.

.380 still remains a rare find here. .38 is also a little hit and miss. Plenty of everything else though.

Default .380

We have seen the remington 100 packs in the last month, just bought a .45 rem. hundred pack of HP yesterday along with 2 Win 125 JHP 50 round boxes. The shelves were full though. Looking better!

Cabella's actually has ammo on sale. Although it is difficult to recognize the prices they want as sales prices.

I was sent to Walmart to buy some shampoo. Swung by the ammo counter, walked out with 5 boxes of 45 colt at 17.00 for a box of 20. For a moment I thought how to explain to my wife why a bottle of shampoo cost $100.00. Nope, I am little smarter, made two purchases, one ammo, second shampoo.

What!!!.... I was told repeatedly by five different Wal-Marts that "Wal-Mart absolutely, positively does NOT ever sell .45 Colt."

May I ask what part of the country this WM is in?

Yeah, .45 Colt has been scarce. I would have figured that most people who shoot .45 Colt regularly are either rich or reloaders. When I bought my first Old Model Blackhawk .45 in 1973 I saw right quick I was going to have to reload if I shot it much. Over the years I've accumulated several thousand pieces of brass. I just finished loading 1000 new starline pieces with 9 grains Unique and 255 grain rnfp. The brass had been packed back for seven or eight years. It was the first caliber I loaded. I soon added .38/.357, but I don't load .45ACP. I figure at only a couple of thousand rounds per year, it would take a while to recoup the price of a new outfit.

I go by Wally World at least twice a week and still have not seen 45 ACP for over a year now. Plenty of the other calibers at times but not one box of 45 ACP. Makes me want to get a 1911 in 9mm at times.

Recently stopped at Wal-Mart in Lancaster, Pa. to get some .45 auto value pack which they had in the case.No employee to open the darn case. The only ones I found were in the drug dept. and a check out girl. They called but after 40 min.I had to give up....

Default Inventory has improved

I'm in southside VA, and they seem to be restocking faster than I can buy for a change (9mm/.22lr/30-30), even saw some .380 in the wild too.

Big difference than what they used to have on hand back in Jan/Feb/March. I hate to take away business from local gun shops, but if the ammo is there, and I'm there with a few extra bux in my pocket...

They even took down the "Limit 2 boxes per customer" sign they used to have, even though they look the other way.

I don't believe this! I, also, live in C. FL.

That's the last time I put any stock in anything Wal-mart says!

Add $11- $15 or more to every price for shipping, and it doesn't seem like such a deal (unless you just gotta have what only they seem to carry, which I usually do. ; )

I just bought one box of Black Hills .44 magnum from Cabela's, and they shipped it in a carton that would have comfortably held two 6" model 29s.

Just try to call and ask to see if walmart has something in stock, they would rather lie and tell you they don't have it rather than go look for it. Tried it several times, then went to store, and what do know, there it is on the shelf, same B.S. at home depot too. Just can't depend on them to tell you the truth. Too lazy to look.

I went back to that same WM today. I had to make a choice, and do some quick calculations. The ammo case had two 250 round packs of the Rem-UMC .45 (the same two I left two weeks ago?) and three 100 packs of WWB .45. I know what the per-round cost on the 250 packs figures to; .36 cents each. I did some quick figuring in my head, and decided the WWB was cheaper. When I got out of the store, I figured it up with a stubby pencil, and the WWB figured to .35 Cents each. I felt like a housewife comparing prices of canned beans. It's good to see a little more availability, though. Encouraging.
