I am about to purchase 12 boxes of .44 mag ammo in one or the other of these brands. Please give me an idea of the difference if any. They are within $3.00 of each other for 12 boxes with shipping charges. Just looking for the better of the two brands, as being in CA we are getting closed off to internet purchases on February 1st.

I have only used a handful of Fiocchi 44 Magnum ammunition but have used it more extensively in many other calibers and gauges and have always found it to be good quality. I wouldn't take the chance with the other brand for $3, if I were the one spending the money. I expect you would find the Fiocchis to be very satisfactory.

One thing I did note about the Fiocchi 44s I have seen and fired is that they were not roll crimped. If there was a cannelure on the bullet, the bullet was seated deep enough that one could not see it, and the crimp appeared to be a rather light taper crimp. None of this seemed to matter. We fired off several cylinders full, holding back one cartridge here and there for testing in the next cylinder full. We never did get any of the bullets to budge. I guess the crimp was no issue - with this batch of cartridges anyway.

Thanks M29 for the imput. I have to move pretty quick as we are getting cut off here in CA for internet purchases due to a new bill AB962 that goes into effect Feb. 01. It is where any ammo sales has to be face to face with ID and thumbprint, no internet sales. It is being challenged but I am just making sure I have a few extra boxes around, just in case it goes on thru.

That's unfortunate. If you can find Federal American Eagle 44s at a fair price, you might want to try them. The brass is good quality and price should be similar to Fiocchi.

I have reloaded Federal 44 Magnum brass with good success over the years. Have no experience loading Fiocchi brass in 44M, but it has been OK for me in 357M, 40SW and 9x19.

Can't say about PRVI, but Fiocchi is as good quality ammunition as any there is. Brass is durable and excellent for reloading. If "Hot" is really a criteria Fiocchi fills that bill too. Fiocchi is typically loaded to CIP standards, which is higher pressure than SAAMI. I haven't chronographed the .44/240, just never got around to it. What I can tell you is that, while I can tolerate R-P and WIN factory loads, the Fiocchi is so abusive I simply cannot tolerate it. Several years ago a friend gave me about 40 rounds that he wouldn't shoot. I still have 15 left, maybe I will get them all emptied some day!

Yes, they are pretty sturdy. The Fiocchi 44s I had to experiment with were given to me by a friend who bought them to use in a Browning '92. After a few shots in the Browning, he decided to look for something else and turned the rest of the Fiocchis over to me. It's a cute little rifle, but that Browning was vicious with them. They aren't a lot of fun in a Model 29, either.

It would be interesting to know how fast they are going. I never chronographed them, either. Current name-brand U.S. 44M/240 factory loads are supposed to clock 1180, and when you put them in a 29, that is about what they feel like. The Fiocchis are probably going close to 1400.

If the OP is looking for something inexpensive, reasonably pleasant to shoot, and is not concerned with reloading, CCI Blazers are very accurate in my guns. It seems strange for inexpensive, aluminum-cased ammunition, but I can't think of any 44 factory loads that outshoot them.

According to "Ammo and Ballistics II" the 240 gr. Fiocchi .44 mags, (44A), are supposed to deliver 1375 fps.

Fiocchi is top quality stuff, I have never had a problem with any of their products.
Prvi is ok for the price if you are just needing blasting fodder, but it shoots dirty and has quality control issues. I have some for my .375 H&H, and at least 4 out of 20 (and one time 9 out of 20) would not chamber because the top of the belt on the case was sloped rather then flat, turning a good deal on mediocre .375 ammo into paying brand name price for mediocre ammo. This is a common failing in any of their ammo that has a belted case. It's just issues like this that make that $3 seem like no savings at all in the long run.

If your able try both brands first and buy the one your gun performs the best with.

Fiocchi has been the top ammunition producer in Italy for over 100 years and first entered the US Market about a decade ago. They use to import their ammo now they have set up a production plant here in the US to keep up with demand. Fiocchi is "Top Shelf" when it comes to ammunition and will be a Top Contender in the Ammo Game in the next few years. To these ends I would not hesitate to buy Fiocchi Stock were it offered on the US Stock Market.

Buy it while it is still priced as a bargain and don't look back!

I haven't shot the .44 Magnum ammo from either company but I have shot a lot of Fiocchi in different calibers. I found it to be good ammo and was happy with the performance. As for Prvi Partizan ammo, I've only shot it in rifle calibers and it also shot well. I'm guessing either would be fine but I would probably go with Fiocchi because I have more experiance with it and trust their ammo.

as Archangel I haven't shot any Fiocchi in .44mag but have several different pistol chamberings it did well in all.
for that matter the PP I've shot - .32acp and 9 Makarov also did well.
the PP cost a bit more it seems.

Thanks for all the replies sounds like that both brands are pretty good. I will let you know as I think I will get both as Mule 88 suggested and then make my decision as to what is best. I will be shooting them in my 29 6.5" and my new M629PC 2-5/8" and I have an older Ruger Redhawk I will run a few down range in. I will let you know if there is any difference and once again thanks for all your help and comments.
