Default Need help selecting ammo for J frame model 337Ti.

Hi i have a very nice Smith model 337 Titanium 38+p, Jframe 2in revolver, the book says not to use non jacketed ammo in the gun as it is very light, 11.5oz, and the lead non jacketed bullets may seperate causing the cylinder to jam, keeping that in mind as well as the recoil in plus p ammo what type of 38cal ammo should i use for SD in this pocket carried gun? also i wonder if half jacket ammo would be ok or would it be the same as all lead and possibly shoot loose??

CorBon DPX 110 grain +P is another good choice.

I carry critical defense (standard velocity not +P) in all of my snubbies. Shoots smooth - little recoil and from what I have read and seen has really good expansion. I have an LCR, two 1960's Mod 36s (one square, one round), a 1964 Cobra, a 1975 Detective Special, and a Magnum Carry - all of them like the critical defense rounds.

I think S&W also warns against using that light a bullet.

IMO in that revolver the Speer 135gr Short Barrel .38 Special +P ammo is a good choice. I also see nothing wrong with Federal Nyclad ammo either. Old doesn't always mean outdated.

I like the three main ones suggested already: CD, Gold Dot 135, and Nyclad. From an 11 oz. gun, I'd see which one is most controllable in rapid fire. That GD is about the most controllable +P I know of--more of a push than a snap--but 11 oz. is pretty doggone light.

I shoot the Gold Dots in a 15oz J frame and although 4oz doesn't sound like much it does make a big difference when you consider that 4oz is over 35% more weight.

Default Ammo for 337

I just picked one up and posted about it a few days ago. I carry Federal 110gr Personal Defense Hydra Shoks in mine. I ran 2 boxes thru it and man are they accurate. I am a firm believer in the theory that if you can hit bad guy with 2 quick .38 shots in the chest area he will leave u alone even if they were not +P's. The very manageable recoil and accurate nature of this round will alow me to do this in a bad situation.

BTW, the light bullet limitation(nothing under 120gr) only applies to the 340PD and other MAGNUM scandium j frames with titanium cylinders.

I can't find the M337Ti on the S&W Site.

Also, are you sure the light bullet warning is limited to the M340 and M360? I would think if the M337Ti is just as light the same problem could occur if you shoot very light bullets. Page 12 of the S&W Revolver Manual warns against light ammo for the "Ti, Sc & PD Series" revolvers. I would think the M337Ti falls under that warning.

I use the Hornady Critical Defense in both my 9mm Sigma (115gr) and .38 J frames (110gr) but I don't use the +P in the .38s; too much recoil to get an accurate second shot off quick.

hI, THEY QUIT MAKING THE MOD 337Ti, a few years ago, i was lucky to get one that is like new, several members of this fourm own the 337, its great in that it only weighs 11.4oz, great for pocket carry, not so great for [prolonged shooting.....the only literature that came in the box with mine states not to shoot non jacketed +P bullets in the gun, nothing pertaining to bullet weight however....it is a 38 or 38+p caliber gun...non jacketed 38 non plus p ammo is ok to shoot, according to SW...
