Default 30 Remington Ammo, Questions?

My elderly (very) neighbor asked if I would help him sell/dispose of some old ammo that he has held onto for years. Most of it is 30-06 and shotgun shells but he did have these (3) boxes of 30 Remington from a Model 8 he owned many years ago. (2) are full 20 rounders and the 3rd has 17 rounds. Ammo is in excellent condition and has been properly stored. Boxes are in pretty good shape too.
I am not a vintage ammo collector, have no idea what he might have here or what value, if any, there is for this ammo. I did a customary forum, GunBroker & Google search and did not find much information or "For Sale" items in this caliber.
Opinions? Comments?
As always, thanks for any assistance.

Like NE said, $20/box would be good. Sure you may be able to get a bit more from a collector, but $20 would likely move them pretty quickly.

Back in the days of the Remington mod 8 auto loader and mod 14
pump rifles they had a couple of rifle ctgs that were basically rimless
versions of the 30-30 Winchester and 32 Winchester. There are still
lots of old Remington rifles out there chambered for these ctgs and
ammo and brass are scarce, especially the 32 Remington. There is a
demand for the 30 Remington ammo by shooters or collectors no doubt.
As to value, thats hard to say. If you're a GB seller you could list it
there for sale, if not then maybe here but just guessing from what I've
seen other vintage ammo sell for I'd say $40 a box would probably
seem reasonable to an owner of one of the vintage rifles.

A quick search of Gunbroker revealed prices in the $60 to $90 for a box of twenty.

I can't make out the head stamps but if some are 30-30 Rem they are pretty collectible. That is how it was initially marked.
who'd have thought that may be confusing with 30-30 winchester....LOL

With anything listed on GB the obvious question is, are those
listed prices or sold prices? Many guns listed on GB are so
grossly overpriced they will never sell unless the hoped for
gulible newbe comes stumbling along and buys it. Lots of
guns set on GB for years unsold, rolling over every week at
some ridiculous starting price.

Hello, let me know if you want to sell that 30 remington ammo in the $30 a box range please. I have three remington rifles that shot 30 Rem and could always use some. Thanks and take care, B.C..

The problem with ammo is the hassle of shipping it legally
Cool boxes, sell them online and the ammo locally

$40 a box is a good start. I usually see 30 and 32 Remington priced much higher at gun shows but thats asking price, not what they sell for.
I figure it this way, you can buy a new box of 30-30 Winchester for $20, a box of 300 Savage, when you find it, are over $40, but I am not even sure if any of the major ammo makers offer 30 Remington these days. There's not a big demand for it but there are enough rifles out there to assure that somebody will want ammo to shoot.
At the very least, take them to a gun show and trade for something you can use.

John

There is no hassle or extra charge shipping ammo as long as you have a UPS Customer Center within a reasonable distance. Slap an ORM-D sticker on it and have at it.

I'd say around $40-$50/box would get some buyers, and it could probably sell for even more than that. It hasn't been made since the early 1990s and even new brass is difficult to come by today. Not too long ago, Remington used to make an annual run of brass for the reloading market, but I do not think they do it now. It's not difficult to make your own cases from .30-30 Win brass, but it really requires a lathe to do that in any reasonable length of time. I have made up about 100 cases that way, and have about another 100 rounds of old factory ammo. There are still a lot of the old Remington pump and semi-auto rifles around chambered for .30 Rem, and those who have them are always looking for ammo.

Thank you for the comments & offer. I think that I will probably end up taking some better photos and listing on GB. Got a UPS customer center a few miles away so shipping will not be an issue. Thanks again!
