Speer Lawman .38 special +P 158 grain
Howdy,
I ran across some Speer Lawman .38 special +P 158 grain ammo.
Does anyone have experience or opinions on this ammo for target
practice etc.?
It's not cheap but I haven't seen much 158 gr +P FMJ around.
Thought I would grab a box and blast some paper with it.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I think it's an excellent load. I bought a case of it last year and only have a few boxes left.
FYI, in my experience, it has the same felt recoil as Speer's .38 Special Short-Barrel GDHP, at least when fired in my 642.

I have shot quite a bit of it through the years. Before I got back into handloading I would often use it as a critter load when I was compelled to rely on a .38 for potential defense against animals (never actually had to shoot anything with it though).

If it's just for target practice, then there are cheaper options if you're just going to poke a hole in paper. I used that Speer load in IDPA b/c it was one of the few factory loads that made power factor prior to the change recently. Never had a problem with them and they always went bang.

That Speer ammo is high quality ammo meant for practice when you shoot their SD ammo. Like said above, there is cheaper ammo available out there for practice. It is good ammo.

I use it for training classes since most won't allow reloads. It is good quality brass too.

I used to shoot that back in the 70-80's. I still have some of the yellow boxes it came in that I use for reloading. Not bad stuff back then. I did not know they still made it.

The local gun shop ended up with to much of it and wanted to send some of it down the road, he marked it down to cost and I bought 15 boxes of it. This is about the best shooting ammo I've found. My M19 absolutely loves it as does an old M10 6" I have.

Is anyone here familiar with any actual testing of this round? Not questioning it,just curious.Seems like it might be a good round to pick up if I happen to run across any.
I'm always intertested, always learning ,and always keep an open mind.

My department issued Speer 158-grain .38+P JHP for more than ten-years for out S&W Model 66s. We had no complaints. I still use some of the yellow plastic boxes.

Perfect in the Model 10, 19, 64, 66, and 67s I have shot it in. Not cheap, but shoots to point of aim and packs a nice wallop.
