Default 9mm 115 or 124?

I read on the forums that the #3 sight pattern on the M&P 9c is set up for 124gr ammo. My question is, How many of you use 124gr all the time, instead of just for carry ammo?

I'm a huge fan of the 124gr bullet in the 9mm and I load and shoot almost nothing else.

I like to shoot the bullet weight that was originally designed for the caliber like the 124gr bullet in the 9mm, the 158gr bullet in the .38 Special, the 230gr bullet in the .45 Auto and so on...

Speers, Ranger T and Federal HST's are good 124's to look at. The only 115 gr that does well in tests is the Corbon DPX. Check this out:

There is only around 7% difference in bullet weight between the 115 and 124 gr bullet. I find there is no practical difference in point of aim at 25 yds the distance I commonly shoot and less at closer range between the two so I use what is less expensive for practice be they 115's or 124's.

Talking to a fellow club member the other day who shoots the Camp Perry matches, he told me that the the Military teams shooting the 9mm's in the match found the 124gr bullets to be fine at 25 yds but would loose stability and accuracy when dropping below the sound barrier at the 50 yd targets. They had switched to 115 gr loads for their matches since the 115 and the 124 gr loads where their only choices and the 115 gr bullets maintained accuracy at both distances.

I prefer 124 gr over 115 gr ball ammo in my 9mms because I found
that the 124 gr gives deeper penetration in pine than the 115 gr
despite having lower velocity. Accuracy of the 124 gr loads seems to
be better in general than the 115 gr ammo in my guns.

I usually prefer the 147 grainers,IF they are acurate in a particular pistol. If not,the 124's usually are.The three mentioned above are definetely top notch choices and perform well consistently.
I used to be Ranger only, but am currently using HST's for the most part.I like 'em.

I always carry the 124 gr. as a happy medium between the 115gr and the 147gr. IMHO the 115 is too light for deep penetration even though it has higher velocity and the 147gr is too slow but the differences are small at the ranges a handgun is used for selfdefense. I do use Federal Critical Defense 115gr ammo for the home as I don't want too much over penetration anyway but always carry 124gr ammo outdoors.
