Default Your thoughts on 10mm, DoubleTap vs. Winchester

This is for a Glock 20. If we are talking about Eastern U.S. (i.e. Black Bears, Wild Boar, Dogs, Aggressive Humans) which is a better all-round choice:

DoubleTap 200 GR Hardcast
Winchester 175 Silvertip

I'm thinking the Silvertips, as I'm much more likely to run into humans or dogs in the woods than bears or boar. However, penetration would be nice on the boars.

Does anyone have substantial experience with rounds in this range for these purposes?

Thanks.

For humans and dogs I agree the Silvertips are best but for bigger animals the hard cast bullets will work better.

I'm a big fan of both Winchester Silvertip ammo and ammo made by DoubleTap...

I can't speak for hardcast Double Tap,but I've seen core/jacket separation in some of their hollowpoint loadings, with poor weight retention. This 45 ACP loading was one example. Im not discrediting their ammo, but I'd choose something else for myself.YMMV.

I really don't see how you could screw up a good hardcast bullet, though.

FYI, I'd avoid Double Tap. They just don't live up to velocity claims these days. In some cases, they've been proven (Different Youtube videos) to be off by as much as 200 to 300 fps!

If you want some serious power with a good bullet (think 10mm loaded to near safe max with Gold Dots -- as in 1500 fps with a 155gr. bullet), you really need to check out Underwood Ammo Web Site - Home More along the lines of what you want, there are 180 grain Gold Dots at 1300fps!

They also sell 230gr. Gold Dots that average 1000 fps out of a .45. Not something you want to shoot often!

I've had my best 10mm results (in a Glock 20) with the Double Tap 180 grain Bonded Defense JHP.

Also, unless you are using an aftermarket barrel in your Glock, I would stick with jacketed rounds.

I don't see a 165gr .45 Auto load on the DoubleTap site. Just to let everyone know, DoubleTap doesn't make their own bullets, they buy them. Currently their .45 Auto ammo uses Nosler bullets, a Remington, Winchester and probably a Speer bullet too.

No, I have no interest in DoubleTap whatsoever. I just like their product and have had good success in the past.

I use the WW Silvertip load as my carry loading, and I second the Underwood recommendation for full-power 10mm stuff.

Nada problem,ArchAngel. The testing I did was probably a little over three years ago,and a lot of the ammo was donated.
DoubleTap may not currently load the 165 any more. I tested 16 different loads in 45ACP. Got a couple of surprises, but my pre testing predictions were pretty much on track.
