.22 CB
How many variations are there of the .22CB? Anyone have any experience with these rounds in a .22 revolver? I never liked shooting anything shorter than a .22LR in my revolvers, but this round could be really useful for pest eradication in areas where quiet is preferred and sending projectiles out to the distance of a typical .22LR,

CB what?
The cartridges that CCI sells as CB Longs are not the same as the original CB Caps. Ammo .22 RWS CB Cap 100 Round Box
CB and BB caps were originally used in what was called 'parlor rifles'. Yep , the French used to shoot right in their living rooms.
For pests , ya might want to look into Aquilla's .22 Colibri (pistols) and Super-Colibri. (rifles) No powder , just a heavy prime charge. Super quiet. I even shoot them in MY living room.

All the CB Longs and Shorts I ever tried were hopelessly underpowered. A much better alternative is the .22 Target Short as made by CCI. I never used them in any of my revolvers, but out of a rifle they are absolutely quiet and have killing power. I always got one shot stops on critters up to the size of large groundhogs.

I have chronographed 22 CB Shorts and they average 450 fps. I bet the longs are no more than 100 fps faster. I shoot S&W Model 1 revolvers about once a year and these shorts work great in my little 7 shooters. I have not ran across CB Caps or BB Caps in a long time, but shorts and longs are readily available.

I use the 22 short cb for the exact reason you mention. It is much noisier in a pistol than a rifle so I shoot it in a Winchester pump. Think about it, you will be much more accurate with a rifle than pistol and much quieter. There is a new version called the cb quiet, couldn't find any in short but did buy some of the LR and it seems to be almost as quiet as the cb short. The Aguila stuff is just too weak in my experience, some didn't even make it out of the barrel. Again, if you have a rifle available it will be the best option when all factors are considered.

I used to shoot rats with a Marlin 75C rifle single loading and manually working the action with 22 CB caps. Very accurate, very quiet, and sent a lot of good sized rats into the next world.
I stll have a supply of these rounds, but I didn't think they were made anymore.

Many years ago I shot the cb's in a ruger single six with a 6" barrel.
The cci 0026 cb short 29gr lrn is rated at 710fps.
cci 0038 cb long 29gr lrn is rated at 710fps
cci 0037 short 29gr lrn is rated at 830 fps.
I only got good groups with the cci #0038 for the low vel/noise loads............but if you don't mind more noise the cci 0028 short 27gr cHP at 1108fps does a lot more damage to vermin if you can get it to pattern in your gun.
Otherwise you might try the sub-sonic 40gr Lhp target loads that work in my revolvers and rifles for close work.
