Question 9MM AMMO

Here in OKC handgun ammo seems to be drying up
fast. All calibers apparently. Hopefully this will end
soon. Is anybody NOT having any trouble picking up
9mm ammo?

I went to my local WM and all they had in stock was .177 and .22 caliber pellets! They did have (2) Bushmaster AR-15s and (2) Ruger Mini's (14 & 30) in stock, still at their everyday price. After there I stopped by my LGS and they have jacked AR prices up anywhere from $400-$600! Ammo also; their cheapest 9mm ammo,TulAmmo,is $17 a box of 50!

It's hard to find any good ammo. I'm saving my brass and plan on reloading my own ammo. Its will be cheaper in the long run to reload, especially if you already have you own brass to reload.

I've dealt with a couple of online ammo retailers for several years. Both always maintained a very good stock of all types of 9MM ammo. Both have fewer in stock types available now. One went to -0- 9MM in stock for a few days recently, but has restocked. Neither has near the in-stock selection they routinely had until about three weeks ago. Some types of 9MM I ordered from both suppliers a couple months ago are not available from them now at all...

I finally found some 9mm & 45acp in Blazer Brass on line.
Hopefully it will last till this madness is over. I think I've
learned a lesson, though. Either start reloading or keep
a lot more of my favorite calibers on hand than i have in
the past.

I reload my own. At the moment with stock on hand, I could probably load up 3-4K 9mm, mostly with 124-5gr bullets, and about a K of 115gr hp.

Like Harrison, I load most of my own. I started buying a box or two of 9mm ammo every couple of weeks beginning in November 2008. WWWB was less than $7/box of 50 when I started. It's way more than double that now.

Ammunition and reloading components are just another investment. They aren't getting any cheaper and you can always sell the surplus for a profit if the need arises.

I know, it's ironic all these years folks recommend 9mm because the military and police use it and we should always be able to find it and yet here we are looking all over...

Try buying primers before you say how cheap it will be,that is if you can find any.

I really don't remember how long the last drought lasted in 08-09 because I was very well stocked up then. Let's hope this is nearing an end, soon!

I purchased two cases of 9mm Blazer Brass about six months ago. Now my regular supplier is out. One of the other places I buy had six cases left as of the 2nd for 65% more than I paid last time.

Same story here in central TX. A couple of retail stores will get a little in from time to time but they aren't even putting it on the shelves these days. They just cut open the box it ships in and put it by the register as it sells out in a matter of a couple hours. The wife and I said screw it this last weekend and drove 42+ miles to Cabelas because they had some in stock. We were there a couple hours and you could see that it was also drying up fairly fast. By the time we left the store the shelves were more than half gone than when we had gotten there. It sucks because we are trying to practice with our new guns for our CHL class coming up soon. Kind of hard to practice if you don't have anything to practice with!

My LGS still have shelves full of 9mm in various brands. The selection of pistol primers was pretty thin though and few ARs left--at premium prices of course.

I just picked up the last three boxes of WWWB from the local WalMart @ $12.95/ea. The clerk was pricing .380 ammo and selling it off the counter before he could even place it on the shelves.

Same here. Mostly out. We have two LGS selling Blazer Aluminum for $15 for 50 rounds and Federal for $17 for 50 but Walmart, Gander etc all out. Let me ask... To reload yourself, what tools would you need to get started? Press? Scale?

Get a couple of reloading manuals and read the section in front before the data. Most manuals will give you a good idea of what's involved and what's needed.

Secondly, get a mentor. It will greatly sharpen your learnnig curve.

If you can't find a local mentor, ask pointed questions on these forums. The members are very happy to help.

The only problem with starting to reload in the current environment is that components are scarce.

Lots of 9mm ammo for sale on GB auctions. Easy to buy too. All you
have to do is outbid all the other panic buyers! Does anyone seriously
believe that 9mm ammo is about to be banned from private ownership?

IMHO there will be no ban on any caliber of ammunition, what there MIGHT be are ***** high taxes and/or some type of requirement to present identification and fill out a form to purchase. In Texas, back in the day there were medications that could be purchased at a pharmacy, didn't require a prescription, but you had to present ID and sign a bound log book. The pharmacy was required by federal & state law to maintain the book for inspection. Old school, but it's possible we can see some sort of reporting/record keeping for ammunition. Hence the PANIC!!

Just the ramblings of an old retired cop.

At the gun show today, the best 9mm ammo prices I saw were about $20/box for FMJ, like TulArms and Magtech. Last gun show a month ago, I bought a box of TulArms for $9.95. Now is definitely the time to reload. This evening I bought 500 124 grain 9mm FMJ bullets off Auction Arms for $55, shipping included. Not a great price, but it won't go down soon, if ever. I already have several thousand cast lead 9mm bullets and will probably order several thousand more.

I'm pretty sure I have about 5k rounds of 9mm and another 8k or so of .40. Considering I shoot a few hundred rounds a week and sometimes a little more.

All i can say is...........Remember all of this when its over. And make urselves buy a few bulk packs every week or so. This way when times like these come around, u'll be happy u stocked up when u did.

My ole lady has been laughing at me for the past year. Because i've been buying .223 and 7.62 like its going out of style. Now she isnt laughing at me anymore. Shes thanking me for spending the money then and not now, lol

I bought a box at the local gun shop on Thursday...$15 for Federal American Eagle FMJ. They seemed to have plenty of it, too.

I don't know if all Walmarts ship on the same day, but I literally just walked in and walked up to the gun counter where he wa unloading a case of 20 boxes of the Winchester white box. I was tempted to buy them all out. But felt bad considering I have been looking for so long, and others too. So I left some for others. We have 4 Walmarts within 10 miles. I'm hitting them all up now!
