This time is much much worse, it could take 2-5 months to restock the shelf, according to local dealers!

Pure speculation. People will continue to buy as much as they can as long as the talk of gun control continues.

It's very hard to say, but it sucks any way we slice it.

If it comes back faster we may see higher prices...

The way it is now because anyone who liked to shoot a lot, can't because of fear we won't know when we will get more.

My 223 ammo isn't budging! I don't have enough for more than a few fun range sessions.

IMO the ammo is out there in limited amounts. I was in a Dick's recently and there was over a thousand rounds of .223 in assorted boxes. I bought some and the employee told me it would be gone within a few minutes once word got out that they had some in stock and that usually it's one person that attempts to buy it all (they have a six box limit). The bottom line is once ammo hits the shelf it's usually snapped up by the first couple of people if not by the first. I went to a Wal-Mart in our area and wasn't even looking for ammo and got in a conversation with the sporting goods manager and he said the day before a guy bought 81 boxes of .223 totally wiped them clean both at the counter and in the stock room. Panic mode is at full throttle and the RPM gauge is in the red and I don't forsee it changing for a loooonnnnngggg time.

But we all know if you push something in the red and keep it there for any length of time, things will come apart.

It also may be that many people have double or triple ordered. Then they'll only buy the first one that comes in. The rest of the perceived backlog will just evaporate.

There are gun shops that still have some ammo. Thursday drove over on the east side of town. I'd been seeing a gun store along the way called "One Shot". I saw an open parking space so I pulled in. Lots of ammo. And they were very proud of it! I saw 2 boxes of premium 12 gauge for $22.59 each! There was plenty of 22 caliber ammo, but the 100 round boxes were $13 each. For 22 rimfire. And sufficient supplys of 7.62x39 but a about $1 a shot. Too rich for my blood. So I was rude and impolite as always and evesdropped on a few conversations. Clearly newbies, looking to buy new guns at list price. And the helpful sales guys guaranteed the buyers they'd throw in a box of appropriate ammo!

I wonder what those gun shops will do if they don't get resupplied soon. I'm guessing with no guns to sell and little if any ammo, they'll close up shop or only open on Saturdays. Why pay high labor costs?

Wideners had some Israeli (IMI) .223 for sale yesterday and said it was the last of that flavor until at least this fall, and that was assuming they would be allowed to import more. Don't know about domestic ammo.

most of dealers I deal with have raised ammo prices considerably and also telling people not available. This has gone on with probably 3 I have called. The more the frenzied gun talk the more of this we will have.

I was shooting at a local indoor range. they had large saying sold out of various calibers. People were waiting in line 30 minutes only to learn there was no ammo for them when they got to the counter. Lots of unhappy customers. Guy behind the counter says all store ammo is being diverted to the range for people to shoot. No relief in sight.

It was a good day to be shooting my model 17-3!

This recovery will take much longer. As supplies return, people will start hoarding in anticipation of the next shortage. Many folks, having memories of plenty of ammo at the LGS (and on-line) bought only what they needed for the near future. They now realize how important "stocking up" is and will change their buying habits. As demand continues, supply will take longer to catch up.

I got some on back order that is around 11-12 weeks to be filled. Most sights still have all there ammo listing downs so that tells me back orders are most likely taking up any new stock they might get in.
