Anyone see any of this yet???

Remington HTP...210 grain .41 Magnum. Remington is only making seasonal runs of their 210 Soft Point....this would be great round for personal defense but I really wish they would bring back the short lived 175 short jacket HP....

Looks promising ......

ps...now I am beginning to wonder if this isn't just the same old Soft Point in a different wrapper...

The two ** after the caliber usually means a discontinued item...so this may be just a SSDD..

when I worked at Cabela's and they were still taking returns on ammo I got a box of the Remington 170 gr load for the 41 mag. I was thinking it kind of a self defense load like the winchester Silvertip 175 gr load. after shooting 6 of them I found out that it very different with a LOT of muzzle blast and recoil for a light bullet. for self defense I think the Silvertip is a lbetter load

..depends on how you want to look at it.... The Silvertip from a 4" barrel is running in the mid 1100s to low 1200s....the 170 (not 175) Remingtons are running over 1350....

Winchester ST...( these usually clock 1225 in a 4" and 1300 in a 6". No clue why this one was so low)

Yes the recoil is more but if you try some defensive shooting on a timer see what the time difference is between one round on two targets and then two rounds on two targets at 7 yards or less which is the typical self defense range you may find little difference in the times....I personally would rather have the extra 125-200 fps...

Another round that work real well are those loaded with the Barnes 180 Expander...CorBon, Federal, Barnes all load this bullet in the 1300s and I find it not bad to shoot...

...you know this is going to hurt....this is also the bullet (CorBon brand of course) that Peter Pi of CorBon carries in his personal 58...

WTH is the HTP? I just noticed they have it in .44 mag too. Is it intended as a defense round...? Their old standby SJHP .44 (which is a beast) is listed at 1180 fps, and so is HTP. I got my butt whacked in this forum for considering .44 magnum in a carry gun, so it would be nice to see somebody bring out a round designed for carry. FWIW, on the HTP page, the graphic is a house with the upstairs lights on. : )

BTW (I love acronyms), does anyone know what happened to the old Remington (or Winchester, for that matter) 240 gr LSWC .44 mag load? The one that started it all? Gone from the catalog. But how long has it been gone...?

The Remington 240 SJHP is a wonderful fight stopper. A friend hit a guy three times in about two seconds at 10 yards with that round out of a 6.5" 29-2.

The first round rocked the BG back, the second pushed him ove further and the last round hit at such an angle it went from below the ribcage to between the shoulder blades... All three bullets fully expanded and did not exit.

Another great low recoil round is the Speer .44 Magnum 200 grain Gold Dot HP Short Barrel load. Uses the .44 Special Gold Dot deep HP bullet at 1080 fps from a 4" gun and turns inside out every time.... The same bullet pushed from a .44 Special at 860 from a 6" rarely expands... I was so impressed with the load I bought a Mountain Gun just to shoot them out of..

As to the lead loads...the 210/.41 was dropped a LONG time ago by both Winchester and Remington... It was an ok stopper but leaded badly and rapidly became inaccurate due to the leading... The .44 240 had a small gascheck but still leaded due to the soft swagged bullet. They have been gone a long time also...

...what is HTP...Madison Avenue Hype....

The last time I recall seeing the Remington LSWC for the 44 was in the early '70s. I received a box of those when I wanted the JSPs and remember I was a little disappointed, but back then it was hard to get anything. You just got what you got. They were lousy shooters. That was in late 1972 or 1973. The next time I purchased it was JSPs and always was after that until the SJHPs started showing up.

I really like both the Remington 210 JSP for the .41 and the Winchester STHP. They're both very accurate in my S&Ws, but the Remington load can be a real beast unless the gun has big stocks to soak up the recoil. I don't buy much modern .41 ammunition since I am still using old stock and do most of my shooting with cast handloads, but I do appreciate your information. Thanks.

I believe it stands for High Terminal Performance or some BS. (More acronyms.)

I'd like to find a true Keith style load for .44 magnum (brass length at least) going about 1000 fps. I think that actually defines the Keith load.

The Remington 240 SJHP is the sexiest .44 magnum I've ever seen. I like Federal C44A too, but that Remington hollow point looks like a tea cup.

I didn't know Remington had a new load until I rea dthis thread. I'd like to see the bullet, but there are no promo pics online that I can find.

Georgia Arms has a 240 SWC that is close to a Keith SWC and is doing 1100 fps...but they are out of stock at this time...

Thanks Bob. I've spread that question out in too many threads. : ) I keep forgetting that I've already asked it.

But I dont' see any info on the Remington HTP -- anybody know about that? What is it -- a new bullet design, or a new velocity designed for home defense?

My lgs has the cor-bon 20rds $26, the blue box federal 20rds $24, and the remington 50rd box for $39.95
