Default What's the deal?

Whenever I go to Wal-Mart for groceries I swing by the sporting goods & look at the empty ammo case. Last weekend I went to buy some motor oil & stopped at the ammo case. It actually had (2) boxes of 45 ammo there, but I didn't need any 45s. While looking at the case in amasement, the dept. employee came over & asked what I was looking for. I said 22s & he said they hadn't gotten any lately. He then added he just thought he'd ask because he had "some other bullets behind the register counter but hadn't put them out (yet)"? It was 2PM on a Saturday! Sure makes me wonder "why" they weren't in the ammo case with the few other boxes they had ??

Well congrats to ya, but just keep in mind that there is a large population of ammo hunters that may not have nice words for you. Most of us spend a bunch of our time trying to get to the ammo that we know is there only to be bushwacked by someone setting it aside to friends/family. Maybe a friendly "heads up" would be great, but setting it aside is kinnda low. Just my two cents. Good day.

To the OP, you sure know how to antagonize your fellow board members. It's great that you have an "in" but to come here to gloat and rub it in our faces epitomizes what our community is facing with the ammo shortage. I'm afraid you aren't going to get a "good job" pat on the back from me.

I was at the local Walmart last week or so at 9:30am, and there was a bunch of empty flattened boxes in a shopping cart that even said .22 Lr on them. I saw that there was none left and asked the woman and she said that five guys came in about 7am and bought everything. At 3 boxes apiece for rationing there should only have been 15 boxes, and how did they ALL know to be there at 7am? I was going to say something but I can see what's been going on for some time there and other places. It pays to know someone. Is it right? Nope, and coming here and telling us that because of nepotism you are getting what so many have been looking very hard for, well you do what you want, but you aren't gonna get many "likes" today.

Ummm, why don't you tell us which store since your big mouth just might get your cousins husband fired. If upper management finds out he will lose his job. Good work there showoff...

Which store is that again?

There is a gun shop near here that is playing the under-the-table game at WM. It has prompted at least one complaint that I know of to the WM in question and has generated some ill will towards the shop.

Personally, I don't think such conduct is something to crow about.

Yep and almost as bad as the ammo gougers getting it and raking others over the coals. It rather see someone stockpile it then letting them get it, remember as long as they keep it. BTW I just left my Wal Mart girl said they have bee getting it in but it goes fast guess the gougers know what time it gits there forgot to ask for my self so I could get some

Our local Walmart has been selling everything they get to the same 2 people. I know this because they had numerous packer tubs of 550 bulk .22's (550's are exclusive to walmart) which they sold to an ammo dealer at a local gunshow for $22,000. When I asked the one guy where he got all the walmart ammo, he just shrugged his shoulders and walked off. I know the guy and I see him in our walmart all the time. I'd be willing to bet it's being sold before it hits the shelves.
Just a note, I have an appointment to talk with the store manager.
If he can't help me, my next call will be the region manager.

I had the same thing happening at my local Wal Mart.
I have an uncle who sets up at the local flea market, he sells and trades in guns.
The guy across the aisle from him always has .22 LR ammo, the 550 round Winchester from Wal Mart. He sells a brick of it for around $60.00.
Anyway, my uncle asked him one day where he was getting all of the ammo, he just flat out told him, he was paying one of the Wal Mart employees $100.00 a week to hold back ammo for him. He was getting nearly all of the ammo that came in.
After hearing this, and having a background in overt/covert operations, I did a little sting. Caught him in the act, video taped it and took the vid to the store manager.
Said employee was fired on the spot. He was really pissed too. Threatened me and everything. I was really scared and stuff too...
Now, .22 ammo is still hard to find, but it is available now, I picked up three 100 round boxes this evening.

Wal-Mart isnt that bad around here. Now another local big box store around here is a different story. 2 of the guys in the gun department work separate shifts. Both guys are taking the .223, .308, 9mm, .40 and .22LR as it comes in and putting it aside for the other (off the clock) guy to come in and buy it. They are both putting them on GB and splitting the profits.

Long story short.....Many of us around here no longer shop at that particular store for anything.

Cool

I quit my job and took a minimum wage part time night shift position at Wal-Mart so I can buy .22 ammo!

Of course there wouldn't be a market for that over inflated ammo on GB if there were no idiots willing to pay for it. You pay $60 for a $30 box of ammo and somehow it's the sellers fault. You can gripe all you want but if you are paying the hostage price then you are part of the problem.

My son is not the asst. manager, he's THE Manager at my local WalMart. Whatever anyone says, its a fine place to work and a good career position, but that's yet another story....

Anywhoot....he would not even put aside ammo for himself, let alone for me. That's not the way we raised him and that's not how he has succeeded this far.

So, all I can say is with that kind of integrity your guy won't ever secure any advancement, let alone make it to Manager!!!

So, if you take him up on his offer, you'll be putting the nails in his coffin!

i have an aunt that works in the sporting goods dept at walmart and i would never stoop so low as to ask her to set any aside for me.

i even managed to find 3 boxes of .40 s&w a few weeks ago at a different wally world and i only bought one box, leaving some for the next guy as i have not had trouble finding any .40

I have 2 walmarts within 15 minutes of me and I check them regularly for ammo but seems they only set out 3-6 boxes at a time of any ammo they get. They have not only limited the amount of boxes I can get at a time but now they tell me I can't buy any ammo after 8pm?

Walmart associates , including assistant managers can and do get fired for understocking like you are suggesting. and its against walmart policy hold merchandise. Seen to many managers lose their jobs for silly things like this. Oh and if you get caught the manager and you will get tresspassed from walmart stores and no more wally world for you !!!

if anyone knows the store # call 1-800-walmart that is the home office ( customer service line )

I don't want to rag on anyone, or people in general, but these are Walmart employees. Be glad to get what you can on your own.

POLISH your cousins husbands resume. The heat is on. Lets see, CT MA location, Walmart finder, regional director, memo assistant manager re: holding ammo for relatives. And every store does not handle ammo. The list is smaller.

Did you not ever watch a Frankenstein Movie? No matter how monstrous, do not be the reason the peasants pick up the firebrands and pitchforks.

So you got a man fired and you feel good about it? Hope his kids don't need to eat. I agree it is a scumbag thing to do to hold ammo back, and an even bigger scumbag thing to do to buy it with the intention of selling it at 3 times the price, but I would never do anything to cause a man to lose his livelihood. I would MAYBE show him the video and tell him to knock it off, but most likely I would just tell him I have the video, and I know he's getting paid $100 to hold it for the guy, and if it continues I would tell the manager.

This whole ammo thing is stupid. This will pass soon enough. when it does, buy it and store it for the next lean season. Buying a 550 round brick for $60 is just stupid. If I can't get ammo, I'll go shooting when I can.

I totally agree. People are acting like they HAVE to go shooting. Just sit back and when the gougers can't sell their ammo for 4 times the price, they will quit buying it and it will begin to appear on shelves again. This same thing happened in 2008.
Probably won't hurt to let your barrels cool down a little until this thing passes.
