Default 125 grain 38 Special +P

Hi all,

Sorry for the question, but I want to double check that Remington 125 grain 38 Special +P is safe to shoot in my older revolvers (Model 19 and model 640).

I appreciate your help!

It's rated at 945 fps, so it is fine for both guns in good mechanical condition.

Yes. Both of those revolvers good for the .38 +P. The 19 is actually chambered for the .357 Magnum, so handles the .38 +P without any problem. The older 640s were chambered for the .38 but now are all .357s, capable of .38+P as well.

If you 640 is pre 1996 or an "Airweight" made of Aluminum, you might want to limit the use of +P ammo, since it is still a.......................J frame.

Models from 1996 were beefed up with a heavier frame and larger cylinder for the .357 magnum, that will handle +P ammo all day long.

Any 38 Special is safe in .357 Magnum. Plus P 38s are not as hot as .357 Magnum ammo.
