Default Federal Auto Match

I picked up some Federal 22 ammo at Walmart this morning and realized a box of 325 Auto match jumped from 14.00 a box to 20.00. Under the circumstances I am not complaining and consider myself lucky to find it but what causes an increase of 6.00 overnight? Do the gougers have Federal ticked off?

Not so fast.
Regular wholesale prices have not changed all that much, mostly just added costs for extra shifts and running wide open. Maximum production is not always the same as most efficient.

Walmart really twists arms to get special low prices from suppliers, with a specific contract period, and because they are so big they get them.

However, every contract runs out, and get renegotiated, up or down, depending on the market. With every distributor ordering more ammo than they can get, walmart has less leverage now. Next contract time, it might go the other way.

A few months back dealers were notified by the ammo manufacturers of a 15% - 20% increase. Why? Because they could as few would complain in this time of drastic panic buying. Ethically, it was wrong. Imagine how many here would whine if their electric bill went up 20% just because the power co. could do it(?). Then again, I'm sure some posters will state that one should have been prepared by having a windmill in their front yard or have 50 cords of firewood stacked there as well.

A LGS had it for $24.99 and Academy had it for $19.99. I've see price increases and was told the manufactures raised their prices to them.

Walmart just got a pallet load of it here in east Ky. The wife and I got 3 325 round boxes apiece. Its 19.95 a box here. Glad to get it, and going back for more if theres any left. The way 22 ammo has been I aint crying over a couple of dollars to build up a supply. Regards Ernie

We could all boycott it like we did with gasoline in the 70's and the price will go back down. Or just ante up and pay the new low price. Like they said back then been too low for to long.

There is no .22LR for sale anywhere around where I live at any price.
If I could get 325rds for 20$, I'd be really happy.
LGS will sell 1 40rd box daily to regular customers at $8.60 per.
I've had to buy online for the last year.
I did get 525rds Winchester HV for $29 from Cabelas, but even that had to bought and shipped. I picked it up from the store to save on shipping cuz it's 10 miles away from my crib.
My son works at Wal-Mart and he can't get any ammo, either.
One nice thang about buying online is that most places I've been getting it from don't charge sales tax and 2 places I frequent offer free shipping, too.

I was able to buy a box of Federal 325's at Bass Pro Shops 2 days ago for $17.99 + tax.
I also bought 3 boxes of Winchester 555's for $30.49 + tax.
This is much higher than it was 6 months ago, but I was happy to find some without having to deal with a gouger.

What difference does it make when you can re-sell it for $50?

I know that's what a lot of people are doing. WalMart knows it too. They see the same people standing in line each morning, they know what's up. I have given up on shooting 22 until this nonsense stops. That Federal Automatch isnt that good, and it isnt worth $20/box to be honest with you. Especially when you can get the 555 Winchesters for $22 when they have them.

Automatch works fine in my rifles, but will no cycle my pistols. I have a several boxes of it I paid $14 something for. Probably not bad stuff for the price, if you want to use it in a rifle, or a revolver. I would pass at $20 per box, better options out there if you look.

Thumbs down

I am not looking, but you don't see much of anything around here, unless you hang out waiting for them to open. A guy came to the range this morning after paying 5.00 a box @50 CCI standard vol., at GM, that is $50 bucks a brick-- Glad I am not looking.

It's ashame when some people are actually looking for .22LR.

Remember when that stuff use to be found by the buggy loads in wal-mart with a no box limit?

A wise man once told me, if there ever comes a time when u cant find .22LR sitting on a shelf at ur local store. You may want to go home and start loading ur magazines and get to your post.

I remember those days and it was just a few months ago but when you look at the new shooters and others shooting it its no wonder its in short supply.

One of the local Walmats here had the same Federal Match 22 ammo priced @ $18.97. They also had 2 cases of CCI Maxi-Mags (22 Magnums) in a 50 round plastic case which were priced @ $13.47.

I passed on the Federal Match 22LR ammo but bought 1 50 round box of the .22 Magnum ammo. I just can't bring myself to pay $19 for 325 rounds of 22LR. I would have jumped on them if they were a full brick or 525 rounds.
