The only correct thing you said is "I'm guessing".

I've been to Walmart stores at most hours of the day, rarely as a special trip for ammo, and NEVER stood in line. I've often seen empty shelves but have never had to pay secondary market prices as product has shown up often enough. It's worth it to me to put forth a little effort. It's the same attitude I take to my job but I see a similar amount of whining there, just different topics. "I'm guessing" it's the same "gimme" generation in both circumstances doing the whining.

What's wrong with being retired and having nothing better to do? I go to Walmart about an hour before it opens and have found enough 22 ammo to keep myself and three other family members shooting their guns. I am up at 5 am everyday anyway. There are a lot of worse ways to spend your time, ever see the clowns making fools of themselves on Black Friday.

I'm an early riser as well!!!!! Not quite to retirement. I'll have 4-5 hours work done before the "gimme" generation even begins to arrive at the office. Looking forward to the day I don't have to put up with all the whining

I think I'll run down to Walmart after this cup of coffee!

The black friday people do it once a year, the ammo gougers to it every day. So yes, I see a difference.

Nothing wrong with being retired. Just leave some ammo for us working stiffs...

I'm retired and I leave all the ammo at Walmart. The last time I was in one was 1983 and I bought a toy train for my son. My LGS and range have plenty of ammo that I look at as I walk by. The secret is R E L O A D I N G. I can't remember the last time I bought store bought ammo. I shoot 5 times a week (I don't play golf so I had to find something to occupy my time). After I shoot I spend an hour at the reloading bench replenishing what I shot that day. The only ammo I buy is .22 but I stocked up before the current shortage and haven't bought any for a long time. So I'm one retired guy who's not depleting the supply at Walmart.

Walmart elverson/Morgantown had pistol ammo 45,9,40 and 223, 762x39. No 22. Bought my allotment of 3 100rd boxes Winchester white box 45 $40 a box. If the secret is reloading I need to know how to make primers and powder because they are just as hard to come by around here. Jacketed bullets aren't growing on trees either. My quest is for 22lr and wmr but if I find something I can use I will pick some up unless it's outrageous gouging. I did that before the ammo rapture. I'll do it as long as I can. By the by it was 6:00pm when I went.

I haven't seen any components on the shelves either, but they are available online. There is a $27.50 hazmat fee per order but that's per order. I usually order 5000 primers minimum, and 8 lbs of powder at time to spread the hazmat fee out. Bullets have no hazmat fee so I get them when I see a good deal (usually around $100 per 1K). 1000 bullets go into a small USPS flat rate box so shipping is around $6.00. I have certain sellers that I look at frequently since supply varies. Also, in the reloading section of this site, there is a thread about "in stock reloading supplies" that I've found helpful. My cost per round varies from .11 - .16 per round depending on what I have to pay for components. The cheapest I see loaded ammo is around .35 per round. I pick up brass at the range since most people don't reload so that saves me .05 - .15 per round. I haven't factored in the cost of the equipment but it was cheaper than a set of golf clubs. (and less frustrating too)

I've earned my retirement by serving in the military. Raised a family and put all my children through college. What have you done with your life (McDonald's manager maybe), So it doesn't bother me one bit to buy all the ammo I choose to shoot for myself and family.

Like I said its small supply regular prices small shop. It was the only 22mag I found since I got an naa swing out. Just wanted to share and maybe help a local out.

The Blairsville, PA Walmart is typical of the five in my general area. Yesterday at 10AM they had five boxes of Federal 45ACP $21.95 one box of Winchester 240gr 44 Mag $39.95 and a few boxes of Winchester 22 Mag for $11.95 to $14.95. No other pistol ammo. No 12 gauge ammo, many centerfire rifle calibers but no 30-30 or 243.

Local WM claims more ammo being shipped in than anytime in last year but still sells out fast.
Also, lots of shotgun ammo in build up for hunting season.

Stopped by pekin's walmart this morning 0800. They had 9mm 40acp,45acp, mini mags, maxi mags, and 525 boxes of remington 22lr. Picked up my limit of 22lr and 9mm. Enough to keep me and mines shooting and hunting. Clerk had them on the shelves since 0700.

Nice hit! My Walmart rarely produces that much but I think things are slowly improving.

Got em today. Noticed last night a few had 100 packs of Fed Champion 9mm. Went to one today that still said the inventory unavailable thing. They had WWB, Fed Champion both 100 rounders but up high I found 3 boxes of Rem UMC 250 packs. They're mine. Had tons of .40 and .45 as well. There's a huge gun show in town so I figured the out of towers scooped up everything but not so.

Stopped by Walmart on the way home from work (1700) and the ammo case was loaded with 9mm,40acp,45acp,22maxmags, and one little box of 22lr quiet. It was a sign so I brought two boxes of 100round 9mm and the box of 22lr quiet. I'm either going to have to slow down on buying ammo or go shooting more often.

In the past couple days I've found Federal 9mm 100 rd boxes for $22.47 (+$1.30 from a month or so ago), Federal .45 Auto 100 rd boxes for $28.97, and Federal .22 LR Auto Match 325 rd boxes for $13.47. Multiple stores, late morning to early afternoon.

You want ammo then you find a way to get it like taking a day off like so many do or have a friend or family member pick some up for you.

Yes I'm retired and I have better things to do like go to the range. Oh snap I need ammo for that so guess what I stand in line. I get up early and head out to my local Academy sometimes as early as 6am. That's 2 hours before they open and I'm not alone. Folks getting off work are there as are people on their way into work. Heck even a few retired folks. So the only reason for people to have the position you espouse is that they are simply to lazy to put the effort in to secure ammo for their own use. They want it handed to them. Hate to break it to you but that is not how the world works. You want something. You work for it. Complaining gets you nowhere.

Check out your local pawn / gun shops. I stopped by one local to me and asked if they had ammo, and they pointed to the shelves...full of ammo. 9mm / 50 for $20, Federal, 380 / 50 for $29. I can't remember if I asked about 22's. But, essentially, it's the same price as at the range here. Yep, it is more expensive...almost twice in the case of 9mm bulk packs at WM, but only about $5 more than WM sells Federal's 9mm / 50 box. But, if you have to have some, it's better than some online stores that have been double their prices sometimes.

Although, I'm finding reasonably priced ammo to be more and more available from the online sources...the shipping costs make getting it from my local gun store a fairly attractive option.

Just FYI.

Should have kept my SKS since they always seem to have rounds for it! In fact, for the first time ever, I ordered ammo on line last night and reman ammo, at that. Just so I can go have some fun at the range. Ridiculous.
