I just received my Natchezss catalog today, They have bricks of 525 count 22's for sale. Price $39.95. If it is going in their catalog I assume it will be their "normal" price. unless someday they go "on sale".

I have been concerned about this as well. I suppose we shall see - there's nothing that we can do about it.

If it's a printed catalog the copy for those 22's was probably submitted 3 or 4 months ago. Back in April or May 50 bucks was considered a "good" price for 22LR. Before you panic I would suggest that you look at what they are listing this ammo at on their web site.

Right now the Federal Champion 325 paks are listed at 18.99, however they are out of stock. The Winchester 555 pak of copper plated is listed at 32.63 and also out of stock.

Also, last weekend Cabela's had 500 round bricks of Winchester Wildcat on sale for, I think, 24.50 with a 1 brick limit. They also had at least 20 bricks on the shelf but as I don't need any 22 caliber at present I wasn't paying close attention. Just noticed it on the shelf with a 24.50 sale sign on the shelf. If they hadn't been right behind the display of primers I wouldn't have noticed it at all. So, don't consider that sale price as cast iron correct, if could have been for something on the next shelf down.

Both the Fed 550s and Win 555s are 23.97+tax at WM. According to the tracker, the Fed 550s have been available almost every other day for the last week it seems. This is the first time in 9 months or so that it has been on shelves around here. I wonder if it's finally opening up, or just this region finally getting its turn. One thing seems certain, it will not be cheaper than $23.97 in the future.

I'm been very worried about 22LR ammo prices since so many have been willing to pay $100 and more for a brick.

Pre 2008 a brick was under $10.

After the first shortage in 2009 a brick was rarely under $20.

I'm afraid this shortage is going to double the price again and we will never see a $30 brick again let alone $20. I'm still angry I can't buy a brick of 22's for $10 again!!!

It's too bad my grandchildren will never know the joy of saving up some change to buy a box of .22's and shoot cans or squirrels in the field. Last box of Federal .22 ammo I saw was over $5/50 rounds. (a box that should cost no more than 99 cents) How many remember buying the 22 shorts because they were cheaper? Have you seen the price of 22 shorts now, or even seen 22 shorts? Very sad!

If everyone refused to buy 22lr for a year it would go down to $10-12 a brick. Don't let them panic you or it will never come down.

It's a shame no one else understands this. Everyone has to have 22lr or they will not survive

Just 22 ammo prices? Doubtful. That's just the beginning of disappointments for our grandkids regarding firearms. Soon, the word "guns" will be added to the level of four letter words meaning obscenity. As I like to say: "this is not your daddy's world anymore".

As I said in the post you quoted, those bricks that were under $10 each were back in 2008, not all that long ago. I remember the regular price was either $8.99 or $9.99 depending on where you bought and Cabela's would run sales for only $6.99/brick. And yes, that was up until 2008 when the current administration took office.

How old are you that you never paid less than $23/brick of 22LR? Seriously, a brick of 22's could be had for as low as $6.99 only 5 years ago. I still have some of those bricks in my 22 ammo box. 5 years ago isn't all that far back...

I can afford more 22 long rifle at $3.50 per 50 round box now than I could at $0.59 per fifty when I was 12 years old.

But that's a bad comparison because a brick of Federal 550 was still $8.97 in 2008 but gas prices were $3.05/gal in January, $3.50/gal in April, $4.00/gal in June and closed out the year @ under $2/gal...

You have to go back to the middle 1950's for 29 cents a gallon of gasoline but only to late 2008 for inexpensive 22 ammo.

Considering a brick of bulk broke $10 20 years ago in my neck of the woods, $25 ain't bad.

People bought and shot a lot of 22rf because it was cheap. This inexpensive ammo fostered casual shooting. By drastically raising the price of 22rf, perhaps the government and antis can reduce the number of people, and particularly young people, that go out and enjoy casual shooting. The ideal is to make casual and spot shooting a thing of the past. To wean Americans away from their love affair with guns. Only when the populace at large is disarmed, can big government be truly safe.

I recall just last year at my local Cabela's, you could go in any time and see tons of Federal 525 bricks for 14.99. I will not pay more than 19.99 for the same bricks. If I can not get it for that or under, than I will sell all my 22 guns and just concentrate on other calibers. 22's are not that important to me anyway.

Ditto. After about 5 minutes I am bored to death with 22. I had 10 cases when this hit and sold it all. Kept one brick, and that probably wont get shot. I might have shot 50 rounds of 22 in past 5 years. Boring caliber.
It bored me when I was 12 even. I have one model 17-4 left and a 1952 Marlin Lever in Mint shape. Booooooooooooooring!

I have to agree about the statement that there is more to this shortage than meets the eye. Tuesday is the frst of october and while its somewhat better one would think after this much time production would have caught up with the increased demand. Another thing that bothers me is the lack of 45acp guns. There are probably about 20-30 for sale in the city and thats it. I can find Springfield plastic but non plastic of any brand, forget it. Kimbers, maybe one or two.

at the Big Reno show mid August, bricks of $500 were priced from $40 to $65, there was still plenty left when the show closed. I think people are starting to hold our which is good.

From what I see... HV bulkpack $25 or a bit under is typical for large retailers.

Demand for .22LR had been steadily increasing well before the panic. Rimfire versions of centerfire rifles and pistols has gone crazy the past several years. This ain't your daddy's Marlin and 10/22 rimfire market of 20 years ago.

Natchez used to offer good deals.

Only .22LR ammo I've found in Kansas during the last week was for 100 rds of CCI Mini mags for $30 at a gunshop. Cableas in KC had Eley .22 Match for $20 and the PX on Ft Riley has Laupa Match for $21, those are both 50 rd boxes. Unless I get lucky at WalMart tomorrow, don't think I'll be shooting Saturday.

The shortage seems to have ended for the majority down here. Not saying the shelves dont go bare from time to time. BUt the ammo sits on the shelves for around a week or more before it finally starts getting low. But they seem to be restocking them before they go completely empty.

.22lr bricks are now around $23 a brick (wal-mart). I've seen it around the $28 mark at the LGS.

Nowhere near what the prices use to be. But still affordable for the average .22lr shooter. $28 shouldnt stop any grandfather from spending time with his grand kids and teaching them how to shoot, IMO.

I am still sitting on quite a few rounds of .22 and will shoot it conservatively.

Federal 525 bulk pack was going for $19.97 around here before the last panic. Now it is starting to show up at WM for $24.97.

A 25% increase? Really????? Not from me. It will take time but demand will drop and when WM and other outlets start choking on .22's then I will start buying again.

REMEMBER those companies that are gouging us and don't buy from them later.

The ammo manufacturers have NOT raised their prices. But in the name of supply and demand some companies have used this excuse to rape us.

Full disclosure - haven't bought any .22 LR since the hoarding/gouging started due to lack of need, not to mention supply. But with the ammo makers running at full capacity, with the attendant increases in labor, maintenance and material costs, I don't see how they could not have raised their prices. If WM used to charge $20 for a 525/550 pack and now charges $24 buying in their quantities, I imagine they're passing along those increased charges from Federal/W-W/Remington. Those who are buying at $24 and selling at $40 are a whole different story.

I'm just waiting to find any .22 bulk packs at WW, to pick up one or two...may be soon.

The demand was so high long before all the tragedies and media coverage.

Folks use to shoot a lot of centerfire ammo, say 9mm. The price of that and other cf ammo got so high that they switched to rimfire 22lr.

At my range all you would see is guys shooting 22lr,

As long as cf ammo is $25 or more per box, that is an expensive trip to the range. Say just one person shoots 2 boxes of 9mm and it costs almost $50 plus gas, range fees etc. That's an expensive 30 minutes of fun!

So they buy 22 lr which will be is such demand that the price is going to stay high.

Glad I got into reloading when I did. I can probably shoot 223 for less than 22lr. It's sad The ammo companies are running 24/7. But brass . lead and everything is gone up. I do not blame them.

Just keep a good supply of powder and primers. Only buy new brass when u absolutely have to. And even when u do, u can use it several times over (worth the cost in that case).

Just dont do what i recently did. I started trimming down my 5.56 for .300 AAC. Little did i forget that once the 5.56 is trimmed down for .300 AAC. THERE IS NO GOING BACK!!!!!!!!! DUH.........Boy did i feel like a w00kie doing that.

As they say. We have met the enemy and he is US..... I blame a lot of the problem on the folks that feel THEY are the only ones to be able to buy. Sadley I bet its over 50% of the folks on here. My local guy went out and sold me all his stock ammo. I and my son are set for a while. The only ammo I NEED as this point is one lousy box of 30-30. I refuse to pay the price.. I had even offered up a local trade ( not on here) for 100 rnds of Rem 125gr jsp 357 mag for 20 rounds of 30-30. Not one taker. Lots of offers to BUY the 357 though. Oh well.

The prices on centerfire have come back down to a low Earth orbit around here. I was at Benton shooters the other day -- 45ACP $34/100, 9mm $15/50, .380 $18/50, 38spcl $19/50. And all the 25rd boxes of Hornady and Federal were $17-19. However, the .22lr was still whacky. Bulkpack box of 375 Federal garbage was priced at $50. I guess Benton is still trying to fill the void for the out of stock large retailers around here.

I was there and he wasn't exaggerating. There was plenty of .223 and 5.56 at less than 10 dollars a 20pack but the .22's were gone. Two weeks later I did get some Remington s by the 500 brick at the right price, it was less than $25 a brick.

I have in mind to get a .22 one day. I'll give it about a year and see where supply/prices are. I may change my mind.

U may want to think about buying the ammo now. Because all it takes it a few more idiots to be idiots. Then the norm prices of .22lr will go up again. If u buy now, u at least stand a chance at buying it cheaper.

I went back to Bass Pro yesterday and purchased a brick (400 rounds)of Federal "American Eagle" .22 LR 38 grain copper-plated ammo. BPS gives 10% discount to veterans so they cost me $21.51+tax.

Just bought three boxes of plain ol' CCI .22LR 40gr lead round noses for $3.50 per 50 at Walmart. They had a shelf full of it yesterday.
That's not much of an increase over what it was before last December.

My local WM sells the bulk packs of Rem/Win/whatever .22LR in the low $20's but I haven't seen any since supply is low and demand is high. That's again pretty close to what it was selling for around here last December. Couple bucks more.

Just got a Bass Pro catalog. They're listing the usual bulk packs in the high teens to mid $20's. Again, about normal.

Now if I could just get more MiniMags.

I hate to say it, but I suspect the wildcard in the continued higher prices could be due to the continued high demand/panic buying from California, of both ammo and firearms. For the last few years we have been faced with the threat of new legislation that would ban internet/mail order purchasing and add draconian requirements for making local ammo purchase (pass a background check, obtain a purchasing permit, quantity limit per month, etc)... and that's just at the state level, certain urban cities want to pass laws to take it even further.

There is even pending legislation that seeks to ban certain bullet types and material from sale here.

I've not seen any change at the Wal-Mart where I used to get ammo from... the shelves are still barren. CA is a large state with a ton of gun owners/shooters, and until the spigot is finally turned off by our law makers, people will be buying because paying higher prices now to get what we can in quanity, is better than what it will cost in this state in the near furture, when "cheap ammo" will mean needing to drive out is state to Nevada, Arizona or Oregon... if they will still sell ammo to us.

You know I had not considered that impact.

In the last few months, Dunham's Sports had been selling Rem Golden 525 bulk packs at $21.99. This last week they had the Golden 1400-round bucket bulk packs at $65. Not great prices, or the most accurate/consistent rounds, and seldom in stock, but I manage to find something often enough to keep shooting.

Just returned from vacation at Topsail Island, NC.
Thought I'd take a visit to "Surf City Guns"
Everything I saw was 20% higher than MSRP.
500 rounds of CCI mini mags $100!
Will not be returning.

I recently saw a brick in my LGS for $60 . . . . I walked away.
