I have got a potential deal at about $17 a box on armscor 38spl ammo. Most reviews have said its pretty good, but I have found a few saying it will lead your barrel up a lot....

Armscor Ammo 38 Special 158 Grain Full Metal Jacket Box of 50

Anyone have experience with this stuff? They say the 357 is loaded pretty hot, but the 38 is ok. Good for target ammo. How is the cleanup? I shot some winchester white box the other day and that was absolute garbage ammo, hopefully this would be better.

Haven't used the .38, but the .45 I've shot has been excellent plinking ammo -- accurate, easy shooting and clean. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it in any caliber.

Well, picked up 6 boxes today for cheap. Made in the Philippines for those of you that weren't aware. I didn't think it was made in the USA by the looks of it and I was right. As far as shooting goes, it burns about as dirty as Winchester white box, but you get what you pay for. I will say that I paid the about the same price- $19- for 50 rnds of PMC and it shoots much much cleaner, so I will probably stick with that stuff for now. I did get about 5 failures to fire in 100 rounds, but I do believe that this gun needs some TLC from smith and I am sending it to them this week to examine the light primer strikes. All in all, I'd say 6 to maybe 7 out of 10.

Eight years ago would you have believed me if I told you a box of .38 Special ammo would cost you $19 and you would be happy to get it? I was upset paying $6/box back then, who knew?

I'm very happy I reload or I would not be able to shoot for the cost...

Tell me about it....

Id love to find someone local that would happily take my money and arrange a deal that they would profit, and I would save off what I currently pay, to buy their reloaded stuff. I just cant afford to get into reloading right now (the monetary cost and the learning curve, but maybe that sounds dumb paying what I pay for ammo)....I really hope to someday though.

It wouldn't hurt to get a good reloading manual and study it. It will take some of the mystery out of it and help you decide when the time would be right.

I and my hunting friends started reloading back in High School (high school age I mean). It is not tough at all. Try it, you'll like it.

I'm not overwhelmed with joy after running 1 or 2 mags of Armscor thru one of my 38 Supers. Dirty, kinda slow and erratic accuracy but it functioned ok. The Aguila is good stuff in both 45 acp and 38 Super. Good range ammo and the loadings are reasonably stout without being hot.

Was wondering about the Armscore ammo myself. My LGS finally got some 10 mm in and it was the armscore brand. Never thought I could shoot 10mm for the same price as 38spl.

Years back, our pistol team was more or less coerced to participate in our local Police Olympics...long story but we all had other things to do until ordered to do otherwise...so we ended up buying 10,000 rounds of new factory wadcutters. 8000 were Federal Match but the last 2000 (all they had) were Armscor. Worst ammo I ever shot...seriously. It would not stay on a B27 silhouette at 50 yards from a 6in Python that would do 2in or under from a Ransom Rest. I personally think it was alloyed with tin and not antimony. In any case, we gave it away and used the Federal.

We came in second :-)

I purchased 2 cases of Armscor .38 ammo long before the crisis. Both are now gone. The first was loaded with a 125gr FMJ-RN as you see in 9mm ball and in their .357 ammo. It had a decent powder charge, no problem using it.

The 2d case was loaded with 158gr jacketed flat point bullets. Maybe be careful here. In a 4" bbl, I had 2 rounds that sounded as though there was no powder in the cartridge case. One bullet tipped on striking the target. I immediately restricted this 158gr ammo to 2" barrel guns to avoid a bullet being stuck in the barrel. Couldn't wait to finish it.

You have the 158gr load. I would be cautious.
