Question about Standard Velocity 22LR
I recently bought a 617-1 and I'm waiting delivery of it. I used to own a 617-6 which I sold because of frustration with the spent brass sticking in the chambers. When I first purchased the -6 I used the non-plated stuff the range had on hand. I had crazy fouling. I then learned from other forum members to try plated ammo. That greatly reduced the fouling but I still had extraction issues.
Well, I asked the seller of the 617-1 if it prefers any specific ammo type. He said he's had best results with standard velocity loads. So I started looking for plated, standard velocity ammo and can't find any. Why is it that standard velocity ammo isn't plated? Can anyone recommend a good standard velocity ammo that I can try in my new to me 617-1.

Standard velocity is lubed with wax, while high velocity is plated, because wax won't hold up at higher speeds and temp.Ive used CCI sv and like it in various rifles and pistols.Sticky extraction varies from one revolver to another, though if bulk ammo sticks you may have better luck with higher quality ammo

Try Federal 22 ammo.I have found that it seems to work best in all my revolvers by avoiding problems with ejecting the spent brass.

I have several S&W .22's and the ammo least likely to have extraction issues is Federal-any Federal. My guns like the inexpensive high velocity 40 grain, the 40 grain Auto-Match and the 36 grain bulk HP stuff. Winchester 333 and 555 seems to be easy to extract. All CCI ammo can be a little sticky.

Standard LR lead 40gr at 1200fps is the norm for all weapons be it pistol or rifle.
I vote for Federal, cci as the top too and then any of the rest with Remington last.

Good luck on your hunt for standard velocity 22's, I haven't been able to find any at a fair price in months.

CCI makes very good Standard Velocity ammo (if you can find it) but I have also had EXCELLENT results as far as accuracy is concerned with Hi Velocity Federal 40 grain and Winchester Hi Velocity 40 grain both of which are out there if you are willing to pony up the ridiculous selling prices these days.
Stay away from Remington 22's as they are the worst of the worst! I won't buy them anymore even in these hard times!

I've never had any of my .22 lr revolvers with cases sticking the the chamber problems unless I had allowed them to get dirty. A thorough cleaning with a brush and solvent always ended the issue.
Most of the standard velocity "target" ammo is lubricated lead bullets. The Winchester Dynapoints are for all practical purposes a jacketed standard velocity round with velocity from a rifle at 1,155 fps. They can be found at Winchester Dynapoint Ammo 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Plated Lead Hollow
I've found them to be quite accurate from both rifle and handgun.
