Default 22 LR Ammo Finally

WalMart in Oak Ridge, TN had 22 ammo today. First time in about 2 years. Bulk boxes of Winchester 333. One to a customer for $17. My wife and I each bought one. Maybe the shortage is getting closer to being over!

You got lucky because around here 22 LR ammo is still impossible to find.

It's coming back just a little slow. Even the online prices of .22lr is getting back down to the $20ish a bulk box (instead of $50-$75).

Down here its pretty much back in stock. It doesnt stay in stock forever, but it'll take a week or so before it twindles down. Then they replace it within the next day or so.

Where are you finding 500rd bulk packs of .22LR for $20ish Online? The problem with that is the one box limit and the $15 shipping.

glad to hear some of you guys have found 22lr. Here in the Chicago area it is still very tight..$6.00 /50 of any brand is becoming common, IF you can find it at all.

Default Gun Show Prices

Yes, there was CCI, 100 round boxes of .22LR Standard Velocity for $20.00, had to pass. There was more with equally ridiculous pricing, could be that the availability has improved but the profit seekers have not disappeared.

I spoke with a guy at Academy today--said they are getting those in more often and are less than $7 bucks.

Exactly the reason I did not make a move on the Gun Show ammo. I will not contribute to their well being at these aforementioned prices. Am I the only person insulted by the prices they are asking? I may never obtain any .22 LR if these prices continue, sure I am opening myself to abstinence because of stubbornness but its a matter of principle.

I've paid nearly $90/brick for Wolf Match Target when I needed it badly.

Unless a bear is after me I don't need bullets that bad. I say let them set on their high priced bullets. If they can't sell them they won't be buying anymore and maybe us shooters can buy some at a decent price. Larry

Might as well sell your 22 caliber firearms as its not going to get better. The cheap 22lr will settle out around the 10-12 cents a round level and move up from there with time.

Hey doc ... you probably saw the notice, but just in case you missed it, there is a recall on certain lots of Winchester M-22 I see in your photo. Check your lot number(s) against the recall to avoid a possible problem.

Thanks, checked the recall and they're all good.

I traded and sold all the M-22, Thunderbolt, and Blazer for cash and better ammo.

Got some AutoMatch and a few C notes in my pocket.

Plan on being at the local sporting good store at 6:45am and see what they have when they open at 9am.

Last time I did that I was 5th in line and got some .22 ammo.

Saw the M22 in your ammo.
I shot about 100 rds of that yesterday with 5 duds.
None of the retries would fire either.

Good Luck

Nice score. You're one of the lucky ones. I know it's supply and demand, but it's gross what some places are charging for 22LR.

I've had good luck on the interweb shopping for 22LR even last summer.

Only got gouged 1 time and I knew that I was gettin gouged but the "I wantz" won out.

Cabela's, Midway and a few others have my e-mail on file to notify me when some 22LR is available. Gotta act quickly, tho.

I picked up @ 5,000 rds last summer from the web cuz limits at my LGS is 1-50rd box per day,per customer.

Only been able to find two bricks ... and a single one hundred round plastic pack of .22 ammo locally in the last year. Was able to find and buy some ammo in classifieds. Thankfully in the last several days have been able to use a link at the 15-22 forum to order ammo for Cabelas. A 1,000 rd. Box of M-22 arrived today! Over the next week hope some more will arrive. Will be so nice to be able to once again shoot my little 18-3 and a little Marvel 1911 .22LR conversion.

I have not seen 22lr locally since 10/12, and I refused to pay scalpers price. I have not heard anyone getting it at the local WM. There is one about 60 miles away that only sells at 7 am till they are gone.

Our local WM has nothing for .22 these days. Hasn't for a long while. Had a nice flyer up about the recall though. Just in case anyone needed to be more depressed about the situation.

I was in my local Walmart yesterday picking up a few things and I just for fun walked over to the sporting goods section. An older fellow was standing around in the department and after I took a quick look at the empty ammo case I figured, again just for fun, I would asked him about Mini Mags, even though I don't own a 22. When I asked him he just sort of smiled and said he didn't remember the last time he had seen them. I don't know if he was on the up and up but he didn't seem like the type to just lie. But who knows.

Palmetto State Armory in Greenville seems to keep it stocked. Last time I was in they even had quite a few value packs.

I'm taking off the rest of the week in regards to the hunt for 22lr. Picked up 3 bricks of Winchester 333 count boxes Sunday evening and Monday afternoon I picked up 3 of the Winchester 555 count boxes. These lucky purchases are going out to my son and grandchildren for their use.

Last year was one of the few times I listened to my gut and bought 3 ammo boxes of CCI MiniMags when Academy had them for $99 per 1600 round box.

I'm still shooting silhouette matches with them, but not wasting a single round.

Sounds like most people in the north are finding .22 LR Ammo! Being in Ohio its hit or miss, But the other say the ammo gods were shining down upon me. As I needed some 12 & 20 gauge slugs at the local Wal-Mart. And there it was! 2 Federal 525 bricks for under $50. I donated 100 rounds to family and friends. Now Cabelas has CCI Blazer 500 rnd bricks for $27.99 in stock online. I busted out the wallet and splurged on 1 brick. As I do prefer the Blazers over Federal Brass. And it drives the local gun range guys crazy they have to pick them up by hand. My Marlin .22, Mossberg 715t & Sig Mosquito are going to be so excited. They haven't ate this good in months... Happy hunting gun nuts!

Walmart has been getting .22lr virtually every week, it's just gone almost as soon as it gets put out. I've made a habit out of calling all the close Walmarts every morning that I'm not working to see if they got any in, and then hurry out the door if they say yes.

In the past month I've gotten:

1550 rounds of Federal
1300 rounds of Winchester
900 rounds of CCI mini mags
150 rounds of Blazer
150 rounds of CCI Stingers

All from calling Walmart and Dicks anytime I am available to get over to the store at 8am-9am. I find that Walmart is generally putting out ammo around 8am.. Yesterday I missed 525 packs of Remington golden by about 10 minutes when I didn't get there until 9am.

I've also shot a little over 2000 of these rounds in the last month, so I either need to slow down the shooting, or keep calling the Walmarts. For now, I'm going to keep calling.

Instead of calling, use findmeammo.com. It isn't always 100% accurate, but after a couple of days of a particular store showing "limited availability" for a particular box of ammo, you know that is a flaw. Just enter your postal code and it will check all your local stores.

Find 22 Long Rifle ammo in stock at Walmart

I also use the walmart app on my phone. If findmeammo.com shows available, and the walmart app shows anything other than "out of stock", it is time to get to walmart quick.

I had been using brassbadger.com, which is currently showing the same in stock items as findmeammo.com so I imagine they are using the same inventory system.

There have been several times when I purchased ammo before the site said they had it, and a couple times when I purchased ammo and the site never showed it even after the fact. Then there have been several times when it says they have it but they don't when I show up looking for it.

I'm sure each Walmart is different with how diligently they stock the ammo.. The Remington golden bullets I missed yesterday only said they'd been in stock for a few hours.. But another Walmart will show in stock for a few days before it says sold out (and they say they don't have any when I call or show up).

I've been using the ammo websites as a "call that store first" tool, but I otherwise find it to be a bit unreliable to trust that as my only means of checking for ammo.

We are on the same wavelength... it isn't perfect, but gives you a good indication of where to look first at least. I hadn't used brassbadger.com. I'll have to give that one a try.

Went in to my LGS two days ago and saw he had CCI blazer 50 packs of .22lr. There were eight boxes of 50 on the shelf. I tasked for four. He asked if I wanted more and I said sure, but I don't want to screw your other customers.
He reached under the counter and handed me a brick of them, $29.99.
I do a lot of business there and have hardly ever had a problem getting primers powder etc.

At the local Wal-Marts around where I live, I have been hearing about the employ's asking the customers to see their ID, when buying ammo. In the past I have been asked if the ammo is for a rifle or handgun, but I have never been asked for I.D., yet. Wondering if this is happening at other stores? Ray
