Got an email response from Dicks re. their practice of logging in the FOID card info of anyone who buys ammo.
SEE ATTACHED
Also called and talked to a customer service rep. Her explanation was just as foggy. I asked why they log in the info if they do not keep it. She assured me that as soon as the sale was complete, the info was gone.
They also ask if the ammo is for a pistol or rifle(22lr).
I have a rewards card which they also log in. From there they can use the info for merchandising.
My FOID card info is beyond what I am comfortable with.
Every where else just checks for an up to date card.
There is to much politics around Chicago and surrounding counties for me to take Dicks word as honest.

30 some years ago when I went to school in Bannockburn-Deerfield, Ill, I had to show my FOID Card for ammo. Seems there is nothing new under the sun.

Showing a FOID is and has been standard for a long time. Logging your info into a computer is something else. Where it goes and who can access it later is a little scarry

To validate that they asked for it, they need to keep it. Otherwise, there is no proof.

If you had some mustard and lettuce, you could make a decent sandwich with the baloney that's in their reply. Corporate buzzwords and doublespeak. And as someone else mentions, if they don't store/keep the info, how are they going to "validate" that they asked for it in the first place. Stuff like this just tightens my jaws.

Did you blank out the customer service rep's surname, or is that how it is on the original? I know a lot of reps for companies refuse to divulge their surnames, and even use phony first names on the phone and in correspondence.

It was my name and email address that are blacked out . The customer service rep's name is at the bottom
