Default "Do not fire"....Uh Oh....

My LGS had a large stock of re manufactured ammo (I can't remember the brand) and all of the boxes had been marked with a felt marker, "DO NOT FIRE". i figured that it was a warning to people that had purchased that brand, EXCEPT that there were a few boxes of other types of ammo (I think one was a PMC box) with the same mark on them. I should have looked closer and I hope that I'm not talking out the side of my mouth, but since I wasn't buying ammo, especially reloaded stuff, I didn't really think about it until I left. I should have asked somebody.

IIRC I responded on the other post too and stated that I NEVER shoot any reloads other than my own. I won't even shoot friends reloaded ammo except out of their guns. I've seen way too many problems (squibs and over loaded) over the years and won't take a chance on either my safety or my guns.

One of my shooting buddy's just got some .45 acp's from a "professional reloading Company" and although I have not chronographed them yet, they seem awfully hot to me. In the long run it just pays to bite the bullet and roll your own.

Re manufactured is a term normally associated with companies like Freedom Munitions who also manufacture ammunition using new brass. In my mind hey are one and the same. But I came from an era where we picked up pop bottles and they reused them. If the gun store had Ammunitin marked " do not fire" only they can tell you why it is marked in that manner.

If I see boxes of ammo marked " DO NOT FIRE" I'm not going to buy it and certainly not going to fire it. Maybe it's some kind of "reverse psychology " kind of marketing tool. Tell them don't and they will.

If it was cheap enough, I'd buy it and break it down for components...

Default Remanufactured Ammo

If it's for sale in your LGS, I would presume that the ammo was assembled by a licensed and insured manufacturer. I can't imagine the LGS putting his FFL on the line to sell ammo assembled by an unlicensed hobby reloader.

Under federal law, our great white fathers have decided that you may assemble your own ammo but sell it without a manufacturer's license and I think it's a life term for each round you sell, sentences to run consecutively.

I've used commercially reloaded ammo for years and never once had a problem with it.

Ask them why it's marked that way. Gotta be a reason. As others have stated, it may be for sale for the components. Since you have to break it down for salvage, I would expect the price to be lower than if you bought the components all ready to go.

I don't know what you are referring to. I believe this is the only thread I made on this subject.
