Federal Nyclad .357 Mag, 158 Grain
I bought a box of this stuff (SWC HP) from a fellow forum member and took it to the range today. Fired it through my 6" Highway Patrolman and I was impressed by its accuracy. I looked through the internet to find the MV/ME but could not find anything. Does anyone have that information?

I think I have some loose Nyclad rounds in my stash. Not sure what weight they are, but I can put them through the chrono on Monday and post some numbers.

I think that 158gr Nyclad .357 Magnum ammo was rated @1240 fps IIRC.
I wouldn't shoot all that ammo up, it's excellent SD carry ammo.

Not sure why this round was not more popular. Since the bullet is dead soft lead it should expand nicely. I would like to see it come back.

Thanks again for turning loose that box Peakes. I had to do two cylinder worth to see how it does. The rest will be used for SD. Thanks to ArchAngelCD for the numbers and I would like to hear the results from koz5614 and his chrono. This site is great.

Good post, Ironhead7544!
A great mystery to me, also. I have the last 20-25 rounds of a box of this load's predecessor: S&W/Fiocchi 's version with a heavily waxed 158gr LHP, a souped-up FBI load, if you will. This one really slipped under the radar. I can only guess Federal was more intent on emphasizing the 125gr JHP "super load" and the LHP load was left to "wither on the vine."
It's one I look for at shows in private sellers' ammo collections. Lot of interesting stuff, still factory fresh, if you look closely.

Lucky you. I'm down to my last 5 rounds of Federal Nyclad which I keep in a moonclip in the 642. Great stuff. Too bad they don't make it anymore, or, I haven't seen it in YEARS.

In the 90's I kept my wife's and my J frames loaded with the 125 .38 special Nyclads. Luckily I still have some. Never had the .357's until now. After shooting 12 rounds through my HP the bore and cylinder window were very clean.

Sorry, but it looks like the Nyclad rounds I have are the 158gr .38Spl. I'm still going to run them through my 686 snub this morning to get some numbers. If I find the .357 Nyclads, I'll definitely chronograph them. I also found some loose Super Vel 110gr .357. I'm going to put them through as well, but will use the 3-1/2 Model 27-2.

I got to work early, and got some numbers. Time was short, so I decided to shoot everything through my 3-1/2" Model 27-2.
Nyclad .38Spl 158gr JHP - 798fps / 223ft lbs
Super Vel .357Mag 110gr JHP - 1338fps / 437ft lbs
Winchester .38Spl 110gr JHP Silvertip - 1040fps / 264ft lbs
Federal .357Mag 125gr SJHP - 1394fps / 539ft lbs
I also shot some .44Mag 180gr Remington JSP out of my Mag-Na-Ported Model 29-4 snub. I got an average of 1385fps / 766ft lbs

That's a reasonably short bbl so those figures are real-world. Most interesting to me are the figures for Super Vel .357 110gr. That stuff was hot and way ahead of its time, the late 60's. Thanks, partner. Stay safe.

I figure the shorter barrel is more relevant. I personally don't know any guys that carry a 6" revolver on or off-duty anymore. The Super Vel wasn't too shabby. I've got a partial box of Super Vel JSP that I might try out, but they are a heavier weight. I'm still partial to the old Federal SJHP stuff. I got to run some 125s and 158s through my 66-4 F Comp
125gr SJHP - 1347fps / 503ft lbs
158gr SJHP - 1156 / 461ft lbs

Again, many thanks for your figures and your effort! Can you give me the bbl lengths on your 66 and 29? I also have a box of the 180gr R-P and my 2.5" Ruger Alaskan eats it up like good pizza. Stay safe, partner.

The Model 29-4 has a 3" bbl and is MagNaPorted.
The F-Comp has a 3" bbl, but due to the expansion chamber in front of the front sight, only about 2-1/2" of the barrel are rifled.
I shot some Federal 158gr SJHP out of my 2-1/2" Model 66-1 and got 1145fps / 459ft lbs ME. The results pretty much mirror those of the F-Comp.
I also did some "brand X" guns:
-Glock 29, 10mm - KKM std length barrel.
175gr Winchester Silvertip: 1175fps / 536ft lbs
-Glock 33, .357SiG
Speer 125gr GDHP = 1297fps / 466ft lbs
-Colt "Super Commander", 38Super
American Eagle 130gr FMJ = 1165fps / 391ft lbs
125gr. Win Silvertip = 1120fps / 348ft lbs
-Colt "Pocket Nine"
Speer 124gr GDHP = 1100fps / 333ft lbs
-Colt 1908, .380ACP
Lawman 95gr TMJ = 986fps / 205ft lbs
-H&K P7M13
Speer 124gr GDHP = 1070fps / 315ft lbs
