Default 40 S&W Recoil

Can anyone recommend a low/moderate recoil defensive round in 40 S&W. Preferably conventional JHP. Thanks

A lot of that is based on the gun, not the round. Having said that, my PPQ shoots Remington Golden Sabers comfortably.

The gun in question is a 40c. My carry ammo is some old Black Talons that I've had for years. Compared to some of the FMJ's I've shot, they seem pretty hot.

Lighter guns with heavy bullets have more perceived recoil. A 40 SW just has that snap to it.

Try the lightest bullet ammo you can find.

Something like this Hard to beat an XTP bullet. There are some lighter bullets like Hydra Shok

I prefer 180 grainers. They feel less snappy to me.

I carry Federal 165 gr HST HP in my compact 40, good accuracy and the recoil is acceptable.

There are other good rounds, but that's my choice.

Same here… 180 grain feels like it has less "snap" to it than lighter rounds, out of any of my .40s.

Another vote for 180's, the 135's just seem to have more
muzzle blast and a sharper recoil impulse.

Hi all.

just came across this thread while looking for snubbie .38 info .

I also have a CZ RAMI chambered in .40, and it seems to me like the Barnes TAC XPD, which is the same projectile that corbon loads in their DPX line, IMHO this is about the best thing going as far as reduced recoil and excellent terminal ballistics for your subcompact .40.

It seems like the Barnes loaded stuff is not as hot as corbon, but still gets the job done.

https://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/amm...-sw-140-grain/

hope this helps!

Now, off to learn more about snubbie .38 loads.
